I'm new in the field of using transient shaper and have some questions:
1) Which Transient Shaper are state of the art in 2020?
2) Which TS do you use?
3) I never feel good to use TS on a drum-buss when I want to sculpt drums (in an non-creative) way. I would assume a TS is always better to use on single-tracks. How do you see this?

Is there an non-ILock equivalent to Eventide Physion?

No

iZotope Neutron 3 replaced NI Transient Master for me. 3-band split is the key here. Now I use it on pretty much every track.

And yes.

1) Don't know, but what I have is good enough for me
2) NI Transient Master, Bitwig Transient Control, and compressors in general
3) It probably depends. I don't do drums that much.

I'm mostly using Transgressor 2, its only fault is that it's threshold-based. When I need level-independent transient shaping or saturating (only) transients, I'm using Couture. Both have features I haven't seen in any other transient shaper. Separate EQs for transient & sustain parts for Transgressor 2, and transient saturation for Couture.

1. iZotope Neutron, Softube Transient, Oeksound Spiff, probably some others
2. Neutron, until i sell MPS3. Then probably Softube or Spiff. i sometimes use Voxengo Transgainer as well.
3. Neutron multiband is good on buses. Else, i prefer multiband operation on single tracks.

I agree. I'd love to buy only Neutron3 Transient shaper. Everything else from MPS3 I barely use (sans VocalSynth). But it seems pointless to keep MPS3. for transient shaper only...

I'm not sure there's a lot of difference between the many transient shapers on the market. That said, the Kilohearts transient shaper is my go-to because it has a "pump" parameter that optionally ducks the signal after the transient, giving it more punch without adding volume. Also, if you have Multipass, you get multiband transient shaping.

Sonnox Envolution is one of the best I've heard for full drum buss shaping. Not cheap though.
For individual instruments, I like NI Transient Master, SPL Transient Plus, or KiloHearts Transient. Can't go wrong with any of these.

The Neutron one is awesome. And for special duties check out Auburn Sound's Couture which is currently only $19.

Might try the Kilohearts one with my voucher. They make good sounding, low-CPU, easy to use stuff.

1) the elysia nvelope is spectacular. it was made by the company of the guy who invented the first transient shaper and it is the state of the art.
2) i use it. (i use it on mixanalog.com)
3) i think in fact a good transient shaper CAN be used on a drum bus because ideally it will coast over transients that are too close together, not artificially pumping up the individual spikes, you know? it'll only sharpen the transients which 'stick out' instead of making everything an ultra-staccato nightmare. that is what i think.

I have Transgressor 2, SPL Transient Designer Plus, Neutron Elements. And I find myself using Ableton's drum buss more than any of them. Still, they each sound different, so sometimes I try several.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.
