What is that X-Mod? Is it a kind of sync or FM between the oscillators? I'm not familar with the original synth.Ingonator wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 7:09 am Concerning the GUI the layout was never a problem for me while doing tons of patches with it and actually i like it the way it is.
Nobody mentioned yet that X-Mod is included? This was not a feature of the original OB-Xa/OB-8 but only included in the OB-X.
In the OB-X is was a simple on/off button while in the plugin it is a knob that adjusts the amount. In the Arturia plugin this feature is included too.
If you look at the video you can see that the "step sequencer" is actually a Step LFO (called "LFO STEPS" in the GUI) which is available for both LFOs (two full featured LFOs instead of one in the original synth). This could be used like a "normal" step sequencer when "Filter Env Retrig" is activated and the LFO being assigned to pitch modulation.
The fact that there is a Bandpass filter (activated with the "BP" button at the GUI) was alraedy mentioned yesterday. It is a resonant BPF with 12dB and 24dB modes (same switch as for the LPF used there).
Anyway, i'm not sure i'll buy it - I have Dune 3 so I think I have the "Synapse sound" covered overall - but it seems to shape up into something more interesting than I originally thought.
I definitely thought it would be Oberon and not Obsession, somewhat odd name choice imo.

X-Mod = crossmodulation of Osc 2 to Osc1. This is like analog FM.recursive one wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 7:29 am What is that X-Mod? Is it a kind of sync or FM between the oscillators? I'm not familar with the original synth.
As just mentioned originally this was only included in the OB-X but not in later OB-Xa/OB-8 models and only as an on/off switch there instead of a knob.
For me the name fits as i am indeed "obsessed" by this synth since i started using it.recursive one wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 7:29 am I definitely thought it would be Oberon and not Obsession, somewhat odd name choice imo.

Great, thanks. Will that X-Mod be a modulation target (velocity, env, LFO)?Ingonator wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 7:38 amX-Mod = crossmodulation of Osc 2 to Osc1. So it's finally been revealed. I like the aesthetic of the GUI, nice and clear, but I'm not digging the layout, although it's not bad as such and will be easy to work with.
It has filter envelope amount, which the Arturia does not have, so that's a plus.
Do the active/mute voice buttons select the unison amount? I see one shot/filter env retrig on the back panel, does it have osc retrig too?
Based on an earlier comment I am going to assume this is same or very close to the same price as The Legend, which would be good news indeed.
Now it just needs a release date before June 9th.

It's called "Mod" on the Arturia. I don't see the difference.Vortifex wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 8:50 am It has filter envelope amount, which the Arturia does not have, so that's a plus.

Yes. By deactivating voices you can use between 1 and 8 Unison voices and also deactivate unnecessary voices in polyphonic use.Vortifex wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 8:50 am Do the active/mute voice buttons select the unison amount? "One shot" and "Filter env retrig" are features of the Step LFO (one for each of the 2 LFOs). "Filter env retrig" is necessary if you want to use the LFO as a "normal" step sequencer where the pitch is modulated.

The teaser video does answer too many questions for me, perhaps a beta tester can expand if permitted…
We cant see any extension panels open other than the step modulation, but we know Arturia has Extension panels that includes a mod matrix, four function generators, and 3 busses with 9 effects each...So does the Synapse version just have LFO 'steps' modulation rather than a MSEG or function generators or does it have both options?
Does it have Stereo spread with left/right offsets on oscillator, filter, and LFO parameters (one of my favourite features with the Arturia version, especially on strings)
Arturia Oscillators’ continuous X-Mod modulation- is this the same as OSC 2 X Mod
Is Synapse 8 note Polly (Arturia 16)

8 voice poly... hmm that's a downside for me although not necessarily a deal breaker. I know a lot of classic synths had limited polyphony but in the software age I don't see why that limitation should exist (if it's to protect CPU then just allow the user to select the polyphony that their system can handle).

The voice edit pages besides several other parameters include a PAN parameter for setting the panning of a specific voice.
The "Spread" knob at the main GUI (like in the Arturia plugin) sets the amount of voice panning applied to the patch where with a value of 0 the voice panning is off.
I explained the X-Mod feature in 2 of my earlier posts from today.SLiC wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 9:26 am Arturia Oscillators’ continuous X-Mod modulation- is this the same as OSC 2 X Mod

So the spread is less flexible than the Arturia, no 'left/right offsets' on oscillator, filter, and LFO parameters then...this seems to be a killer feature to me at least on the Arturia version (especially on the filter).
As far as I can tell based on your description the 'X Mod' the Arturia synth has exactly the same feature.
I am not seeing anything yet to rival the '4 bi-polar digital function generators that you can route to any and every parameter on the instrument. Each of them are variable in length with up to 16 points' - This will be a very important feature for me to review for Synapse when they finally show it.
I like the built in effects in the Arturia synth especially the multimode filter... (and if you dont like them you can turn them off, but hey are good for 'stand-alone' use if nothing else as you can play it witout a DAW!). What can we expect from Synapse in this regard and will the FX be modulated by whatever modulation method is used?
