Obsession Vs OB-Xa V Poll

The answers are quite suggestive.
My option would be, buy Arturia now for 49 as I can start working with it and its worth the price.
And I will see when Obsession is released if it can inspire me new over what I have with Arturia. Eg. better sound, better modulation.
Arturia has set the bar high in terms of modulation and it has an Arp.
It's always the same. First released gets the attention, later released needs to prove it's better.
I mean there is OP-X Pro already out, which I tested and found not very useful because of its restrictions. Eg. GUI size, synth edit based, very hard to read etc. So Arturia won against this already.
Additionally no one knows when Obsession will be released. It could very well be end of the year and why should I wait half a year when I can good sounds with Arturia's OB Xa now?

The poll should really be "red sauce, brown sauce or no sauce at all?"

Having a poll of all Oberheim based synths would make more sense.

No doubt about it.wagtunes wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 11:39 am I'm convinced Synapse Audio will lose money if they don't release Obsession before Arturia's sale ends.
Anyone that thinks otherwise hasn't really thought about the bigger picture.
So Wagtunes I am curious especially since this whole thing interests you, do you think the loss of sales will be serious for Synapse?
Personally I think Synapse will still do well with Obsession, not as well as they did with their Moog though.
For the record I wouldn't have purchased the Synapse version anyhow since the OB doesn't interest me enough but the way Arturia bundle it means I get it for $49 which is just about right for my current financial situation.

Yes, I didn't think of an option "whichever sounds better" which is fine. Those people won't vote. They're not relevant to the poll which is to clearly show or not show that the current situation is going to cost Synapse Audio sales.
Based on the 30 votes so far, it is crystal clear that Arturia having a version out now, with a sale running until June 9th, is costing Synapse Audio sales IF they don't take some kind of action before then.
Again, the pro Synapse people can be offended all they want by this poll, forgetting that I am a big Synapse customer myself. But their indignation isn't going to change reality. The current situation is hurting Synapse Audio.
How much? No way to know. Nobody here has access to sales figures. But I'm looking at the results of the poll so far and if it were my company, I'd be concerned. Maybe Richard doesn't care. Maybe he has a large enough loyal customer base that he knows he'll make more than enough sales. But then I'm a loyal customer (Have Dune, Dune 2, Dune 3 & Legend) and I won't be getting Obsession if it doesn't come out before June 9th or at least provides us with a price before June 9th. Because seriously, if Richard announces that Obsession will be the same price as Legend ($99) I will NOT buy Arturia's version. I will wait as long as I have to for Obsession to come out.
But not knowing the price and knowing that I only have until June 9th to make my decision or spend more money, I won't wait. I'll get Arturia.
And as you can see, other people feel the same way.

but some people will buy one or the other because they are already invested in said company, so they might not be lost sales. theyre sales that wouldnt have happened anyway.
im pro neither, just pointing out the flaw in the poll sorry

Indeed!
Chances aren't too bad though as i'm not even going to demo them (or any synth at all), which will help immensely keeping the GAS at bay.
I'm sure they will sound good though, but i don't need the exact sound of every single synth on the planet. Approximations done on my current gear, that still sound good to my ears, are good enough for me. Which sometimes can even mean “better“ in some ways, but just not 100% or even 80% identical in some cases to synth X or Y.
The GAS is always greener on the other side!

That is true, on the other-hand before Arturia announced and immediately released their version Synapse would have perhaps cleaned up on anyone remotely interested in the OB.vurt wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 1:30 pm but some people will buy one or the other because they are already invested in said company, so they might not be lost sales. theyre sales that wouldnt have happened anyway.
The spoils of war will now be shared which keeps things interesting at the very least.

wagtunes; imho you're leaving out a couple of significant parameters in your thinking:
1.) if Synapse's version of the OBXA is significantly better or even just really different - that could possibly move the market in the direction of people either buying Richard's version and abandoning Arturia's; or buying and using both - you can bet there will be side-by-side comparisons that will especially be influential on youtube - there's already a bunch of OBXAV videos right now -
2.) Synapse has invested heavily into the Reason ecosystem - they're a big hitter in the RE universe - which Arturia isn't a part of at all. My bet is that their OBsessed will come out in RE form; just like Legend.

Do I think it will be serious? I have no way of knowing. I hope it's not. I like Richard. I love his products. But certainly this situation can't be ideal for him.Kian Russell wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 1:23 pmNo doubt about it.wagtunes wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 11:39 am I'm convinced Synapse Audio will lose money if they don't release Obsession before Arturia's sale ends.
