“But an OB-6 for its price, and limitations, seems hard to justify. Given that it probably doesn't sound as good as the original Oberheims, and cheaper alternatives with greater polyphony (8) might arrive down the line in a year or two (Behringer) then it's really hard to justify it, other than bragging rights as to current best sounding poly, if only marginal at best.“

Another person that clearly wants clones, not new members of a family of synths. Why can’t someone love the OB6 for what it is, rather than focus on what it is not? THAT is why you buy it, not because of a yearning for ancient Oberheims. I just think the comment quotes above is simply ignorant. ~$2k for a desktop module, and more for the keys version, is a lot of money, however, so definitely make sure you watch every single YouTube video first - and, if you don't absolutely love it, you might consider putting that money elsewhere.

Definitely check out the Korgs and the Rev2 16. Peak requires menus to use, though they’re generally not bad to use. MFB has quality issues - I’d wait another year to see how that goes.

Peak requiring menus to use..... not really the case in the traditional "menu diving" sense. Yes some aspects are menu driven dut there generally only 1 tier down -and about half my patches are done with just whats on the front panel.

Hopefully the UDO Super 6 would fit your bill, when it's finally released. About the same price as the OB-6, I have one on pre-order.

Sorry for not keeping up to date with the thread - got busy!

Instead of getting the OB6 I ended up with getting a Peak, mostly thanks to this thread actually. I haven't had the time to dive too deep into it yet, so I can't say if it will fit or not, but so far I like it. I can absolutely say it sounds better than the Nord Lead 4 and having digital oscillators is - as long as they sound good - not a big minus in my book. It's difficult to say exactly what pushed me towards the Peak, but the modulation capabilities are good and it has proper sine waves, something I always miss with many analogs.

Anyway - I'll come back here with a longer verdict as soon as I have started to do something proper with it.

I wouldn’t mind having the Novation Peak myself. Already have an old Novation synth, the old SuperBassStation rack...but the new Novation synths sound better.

OB-6 is the best poly synth out.

Congrats on the Peak. As an owner of both the OB6 and Peak.. they are hugely complimentary. The recent additions to the Peak (user wavetables), really provide a great basis for custom patches. It's a wonderful system. The OB6? Well... in a league of it's own! Link to some BKMs -> https://www.dropbox.com/s/2s063vn2p9j33 ... .docx?dl=0
