I have a noob question. I have an iPad Pro gen 3 and currently connect it to an iConnect midi 2 interface. I run iMIDIPatchbay to control keyboard program changes for 2 hardware synths in live shows (Yamaha Motif, Korg Kronos). I’d like to use one of my synths to play virtual synths live from my iPad on occasion. Right now, I’m simply running USB from the iPad to the midi interface, which then routes midi in/out to the keyboards on standard 5 pin midi cables.

Question: if I used a usb C hub, could I run usb C out from iPad to the midi interface to send midi program changes as I am currently AND use the Hub’s 1/8” phones out on the hub to send audio from the iPad to a mixer? Can the iPad usb C port send both data and analog audio at the same time? If not, would I instead need to use an audio interface? (not ideal. I have a Steinberg UR44C, but would prefer to not have it in my live rig).

If the hub is viable, I think I could have iMIDIPatchbay route one of its 4 outputs to select and play virtual instruments on the iPad. Thoughts? Other ways to skin this? I’ve collected a few virtual synths now and would love to use them live along with my two hardware synths. Thanks in advance for the input/help!

Hi Zippydog, I don't have an answer for your question but you may get better responses if you ask a moderator to move this to KVR's Mobile Apps & Hardware forum.
