Because there are lots of people that like that gritty sound with aliasing artifacts. That's why.

If you like lofi with less aliasing, then use LP filters like the manufacturers of samplers used to do.

Bitcrushers are a dime a dozen; any 12-bit reducer could claim to be a "sampler emulator". "RPM" is just quantization that gives a false sense of tuning isn't it?

The filter though - that could be special - but unfortunately it's never demonstrated on its own in the promo video, so who knows.

Nope. This plugin may or may not do the job, but the trick being emulated here was a common one on the SP12/SP1200 where, originally, the practice in hip-hop was to sample breaks off a vinyl at a high RPM to save memory and then tune them down on playback. The aliasing it generates is not the same as a regular bitcrusher: https://ccrma.stanford.edu/~nolting/220c/

There is the question of whether that detail matters to you or not, but if not, you are not the target market for this plugin.

Decimort and TAL-DAC won't give you the E-mu SP12/1200 aliasing.

Yes. It sounds different. I bought it.

It crushes the bits differently (or at least more easily to achieve the targeted sound) and the filter goes really well with it.

They became iconic.
Every cab simulator is basically a band-limited glorified EQ.
Most guitar amps are limitations.
I mean, a moog sim is a limitation. Hive2 is limited.

Hi-hats cut through surprisingly well with that kind of aliasing. As there's so much inharmonic content in the source, the aliasing doesn't sound out of place in the way it would be on, say, a high-pitched sine wave.
