Been demo'ing this https://sweetsonics.com/product/laser today. Literally no other sidechaining plugin is as feature complete, the "Offset" knob in particular is missing from every similar tool I've tried (the "offset" setting in LFO Tool is not the same thing, it's only for non-sidechained ducking, basically just manual latency compensation when you are ducking based on the host's BPMs and other plugins have introduced latency that throws of the host's timing). Also, great, simple user interface and amazingly transparent results. This is the holy grail of sidechaining.

Super.

Anyone else using this? Demo'ing currently and initially very impressed. Mind you I haven't done a head-to-head with Trackspacer yet - even though they have very different controls and underlying tech (it seems), they do kinda the same thing.

Well... this has 3 bands, trackspacer has 32.
Smartcomp by sonible is 2048 or whatever number of FFT bins they picked

What can you do with this you can’t with a multiband comp?

Good question, it'd have to be a very good multiband comp though. I'm demo'ing this now and yes *most* of it could be achieved in Pro-MB, including the expansion you can do with this Laser. For example if you sidechain the kick to the bass in transient mode, you can expand the high frequencies (in the bass) only on the kick transient input, with control for attack, hold and release of that - as well as having that kick transient triggering your traditional low end ducking, both happening simultaenously. Pro-MB yep, but Pro-MB doesn't have a hold function, which I am finding really awesome for shaping the envelopes with Laser. Not to mention the Offset control is pure genius - Fabfilter... you shoulda thought of that first!

Trackspacer can't do much like that, but still it's a really useful plugin. If I was trying to push the guitars down just a touch when the vocalist sings... Trackspacer. If I'm looking for a really elegant controllable way to duck the bass with the kick... Laser or Pro-MB, it seems... and I'm feeling Laser can be slightly more transparent in doing so too.

The sale on Laser just finished anyway so oh well missed it, wait for the next one...

I think the biggest advantage is the offset knob, makes it easy to ensure that the gain reduction "peak" is reached at precisely the millisecond you want. It's also just quick/easy to set up, and somehow extremely transparent even operating in wide band.
