eBay not actively monitoring warez

not sure I have ever bought anything off eBay, no recollection of having done.

Last night I saw Cubase Pro for $4.99. I’m selling my Massive license, somebody offered me 30 for it (list $149) - no - so I googled it to find nobody selling it for cheap except eBay. $9.99 (advertised as cracked “but it still works”, but only for sure in FLS on Windows), etc. There are listings for everything at absurd prices like that. I didn’t see a ‘flag’ feature.

Why is it that eBay as a multi billion dollar company, doesn't even pretend to do some active checking on goods being sold?

Just out of interest, how do you propose they do this 'active' checking? ebay estimates they have 1.5 billion active listings per day.

As far as I'm aware eBay doesn't allow digital (software) sales. Everytime I list a plugin on there it gets removed.

prob why I see lots when searching for hardware synths, they obviously hide it by listing in the wrong category

I looked into it and it is allowed but you have to put digital goods into the right category so I've just been listing them wrong

i bet theres 1.5 billion unemployed people on the planet, they could give them all a job, seeking out pirated goods on the ebay.

id imagine, the companies with more clout, get there pirated stuff, sought out by their own staff, who would then make reports to ebay.

honest users are rarely maybe going to find pirated software? (ive never seen any on my searches as i dont look for software) and even then how many will take time to report it?

And why not point the developer to the auction instead to get a report and ban the seller? It will be a matter of weeks to get eBay clean of illegal copies that way. Nobody cares I guess.

I've many times reported warez to ebay, I don't keep returning back to see the result, so I don't know if they take action or not, but I keep seeing so many of warez of these certain products that it feels like they don't take action.

My argument is that since they have a lot of money, maybe they could allocate some resources to hiring people/having a team to actively check newly listed items. They probably might have "some" monitoring (or not, i don't know), but it feels to be very miniscule at best. So whatever team they have should be much bigger than what it currently is, as right now it just feels like they're not really attempting to do their best.

The developer, as the copyright owner, is the only one able to fill a DMCA and report to eBay. Probably a licensee too, but I don't think they will process something you don't have the intellectual property rights.
