Huh. I didn't realise it was such a late addition. I'd have probably sneered at it back in the day, as a newfangled gimmick.
Maybe one day they'll introduce a continuous switch, with designer lfos and Ableton Link

I have hacked together a simple endless rotary once
I think the 5 way is somewhat intuitive- it goes back for bridge and forward for neck
all on in the middle perhaps
