Just refretted my FG, it cost sub £40 second hand, just got to check the crowning, polish the frets and fettle the fretboard, my 3rd refret, yay.
Metal bridge pins and a synthetic bone saddle are my additions, sounds brighter, might change the nut.

It's funny after all the years of saying I'm going to mod this or that guitar I finally sent off one to be modded. My Epi Joe Pass. I freaking hate the pups in it I don't care what others think about A3 probuckers. JP's sounded better when they were made in Korea simply because they had A5's installed. I'm also replacing the tailpiece with a fingerstyle one. Fingerstyle tailpieces can be tuned so you don't have floppy tones while using lighter gauge strings. 13's no longer cut it for me. I want to play something I don't have to fight.
In other news. I'm getting an Ibanez George Benson GB10EM. They actually upped the quality of the hardware on these over the SE version. Although they've changed the woods for back sides and neck. Going to need to be gentile with it. The big differences are in the wood. Linden (basswood) is similar to Mahogany in tone but softer and easier to dent. Back and sides are linden. The neck is Nyatoh, Which is locally harvested South East Asia. Still it's one of those guitars that I always would say "someday" and someday would never come. People have tried to steer me away from GB10's. Mostly because the tone is inseparable from the artist.

He has his own line with Ibanez. The smaller body one are the original design (which I'm getting one) Those are "GB" the larger ones are 16 inch bouts and they are the LGB. They both sound bigger mostly due to the floating pups. But because of the smaller bout and still plenty of depth the gb model produces a deeper tone with lots of compressed lower mids.xtp wrote: Sun May 17, 2020 5:21 am
I am not up on George Benson. I always thought he played a L5 or a Super400, but according to google he plays an ibanez, is that the guitar you were meaning?

People on the jazz guitar forums say the Epiphone Broadway Elitist is on par with an L-5. I’ve seen those sell for $1,499. My ES-165 was $999 because of the damaged headstock but I’ve heard that ones with no damage can sell for as little as $1,299.

Speaking of Epiphone Broadways... They are back.
Gibson stopped producing all the box type guitars carved, formed and laminate they only kept the bent (335) and semi's. The lone box was the Joe Pass. This year they are bringing back the Broadway as well.
Had I known that I would have opted for the Broadway over the Dangelico EXL. I'd still swap the pups for A5 SD's because probuckers sound like crap to my ears.
The Dangelico is... okay. I don't like the fact that I can't lower the bridge. And while it serves up some nice old timey chord melody it's not a "showtunes" guitar like the broadway is.
My biggest issue with boxes these days is... Too much top wood. They do it to reduce the feedback, But the tone suffers. There isn't as much sympathetic response and when it's there it's very subdued.
For right now I'm consumed with the GB. I want something that I can play fast on. Shorter scale length, thinner width and depth. I was playing around with my Samick Fastback (Les Paul copy) and that thing was great till the 12th fret. Butter all night long. It made stretchy finger chords more easily accessible. Something that has always plagued me when playing on the JP or the EXL
