Line 6 has just updated their most excellent Guitar Port to version 2.51. This includes a ton of presets and a metronome as well as advance notice of some new software coming down the pipe. There are also new mods to purchase for your GP to bring it up to PODxt specs!! Check it out guitar dudes!!

BTW ALso check the new PODxt Live floor unit. A must for those of us string slingers that are doin' it Live!!

Incidentally--

Does anyone know if the emulations are identical to the PodXT's? Ie. is it the hardware that we're paying for with the XT? I'm just as happy letting my computer take care of the processing, if the tones are the same. I am not a live jammer, and nor do I need floor control.

I believe the add-ons for the Port will bring it all the way up to PODxt status. I, too, only use the Port for recording. I want the PODxt LIVE for playing out and it's ability to bulk load patches you make on your computer.

No. They must be purchased separately at the Line 6 website on-line store.

I mean is it compatible? Is there the option to get them? I was under the impression that the podXT and guitarport were two totally different things.

The Guitar Port software works with both the Guitar Port and the PODxt. Line 6 only just now has made the software more user friendly to both pieces so that the presets and mods are more interchangeable to both units. The software comes with PODxt utilities. So, wether you have a PODxt or a PORT, you can have access to Guitar Port software and Guitar Port ON-LINE. The Guitar Port is also ASIO compliant so using it in your favorite DAW is no problem.

Cool, because the website still only says that Guitarport is Direct / MME. If it's ASIO, I'll seriously consider buying this.

The GP got an ASIO driver @ 2.0. The software runs stand alone on MME but you can choose to run th GP ASIO by selecting it in your host's audio preferences dialog. I run my GP through an outboard mixer for extra efx and for more control on the sound.Got to watch those levels !!
