Anyway, since I was born in the mid 80s, I'll skip that decade, not remembering listening to much music back then.
90's: Radiohead.
00's: Dave Holland Quintet, with drummer Billy Kilson. I don't like the new guy Nate Smith nearly as much, though I've only seen him once so far.

Well go to your attic or basement and find those old Motown records to refresh you memory!!!nuffink wrote:Don't bet on too much black music here.shamann wrote:I know it's all just list-making fun for a Friday, but I must admit it saddens me that so far I'm the only one to mention any hiphop acts for the past 20 years.
So close, yet still so far.
BTW, remember Sly & The Family Stone or James Brown???

60s - wasn't born until '67 so can't claim to concious of music then. retrospectively Stax soul stuff - funkier and grittier than the Mowtown production line stuff. Playing in a big soul band 10 or so years ago it was the Stax stuff I gravitated to most.
70s - biggest memory of music in my childhood in the 70's is The OST of Disney's Aristocats, the Thomas O'malley song is etched in my head to this day - and the pap shown on kids TV shows which made no real impression. Retrospectively - Steely Dan.
80s - my growing up decade, loved a wide range of stuff but the band for me was RUSH, very closely followed by The Police.
90s - again I loved a huge range of stuff but being a miserable f**ker it was Bob Mould and Sugar that formed the core of my listening experience. With Curve a very close second.
00's - too early in the decade to pick any one thing but Tweaker stand out so far.

Steve.
I know I have got a negative edge, that’s why I sharpen all the others a lot.

60's - The sixties suck.
70's - Deep purple... It's from the 70's isn't it?
80's - Weird Al Yankovic
90's - Mr. Bungle
00's - Fantômas
Yes, I'm into Mike Patton.
I would have mentioned Aphex Twin but that's not a band.
