Why do people use multiple DAWs?

I tried Ableton 7,8 and 9 and though I'm mainly producing electronic music, I don't like it. For me Ableton is just a typical "hyper marketing" product and the most buyers bought it, because they thought the pros are using it and if they'll using it also, they'll become pros, too. But if you really are a pro, you can produce with every DAW!

I think we're supposed to call them sex workers these days. Back on track, I've never got on with Ableton Live for the mixing and mastering part of the workflow. It feels toytown somehow even though I can't put my finger on why.

As silly as it sounds, I think it's the little triangles rather than bigger faders. I just find everything a little too small to work with. If I had everything mapped to some physical representation on a control surface like one with moving faders it might be better IDK.

I know I can zoom, how can I change the arrows to faders?

What the difference?! And how many times you are going to use that arrow or fader unless mixing. In that case, use your controller faders! I have two (actually now they are three with Push), faders on my P4 and faders on nanoKontrol and of course my mouse!

It's hard to see and fiddly to use, the clickable area is quite small and I don't currently have controller faders that I want to devote to mixing.
The question wasn't why do you think Ableton Live is great, but why do some people use multiple DAWs.
I think Live is great, but I export stems and mix and master in Reaper or Studio One as it suits my workflow. There's also the ease in the latter of swapping between plugins in the mixer view, which is annoying in Live.

Huh ?! Ableton fanboy ? Its not only about grabbing the faders, its about looking at your levels and abletons mixer is the one of the worst among the daws available. It is a simplistic/minimal gui approach. I had a discussion with a friend and i asked him how he likes the mixer and he only showed it to me and said yeah i dont need all that "bells and whistles" . Ah yes and he loves minimalistic guis. But in ableton mixer that is very special, not only the triangles are small , they should be visible more distinctly and ableton live is designed mostly for a live situation , is it ok for you too look at those tiny things ?! additionally there are no big meters. Another bad thing is that there are so many circle knobs for sends, pan etc looks the same like filter , cutoff and can be confusing for the eye. Bitwig is way better to look at.

By the way i own cubase 10.5 pro, reason 9, bitwig 8-track , Studio one 4.6.2 (and bandlab..) and every time i tried ableton i uninstalled it after one day.

Choose whatever suits you. I'm fine with Ableton (and I can be fine with almost any other DAW) and I have said why I chose Ableton Live as my main DAW.
Believe what you want. I have said my part and won't waste my time repeating myself.

The problem is you feel the need to defend your choice, as though you know deep down that the criticisms others have made are accurate and you could probably do better. If Ableton Live really does suit you, then it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks about it. They've made their points, I find them quite reasonable but, at the same time, I can see that somebody else might not find them a problem at all. It would be a boring old world if we all liked the same things.

Interesting. Perhaps the fact you feel you need to spend money on a control surface of some kind indicates that WatchTheGuitar might have a point. Because I've never felt the need to do the same, my mouse is far and away the best choice for interacting with Cubase, Orion and all my instruments/effects. Just sayin'.

The problem is that forums are just a waste of time and energy! Unfortunately, it is like an addiction coming here and post! But I'm trying to invest my time more in learning and reading. I think I will be a silent member. Just coming here for news and the 2nd hand market.

By the way, I don't give the f**k what you or others think of my choices. I wasn't defending my choice, but I was correcting a misleading info.
Push 2 is a great controller and I'm learning how to use it and finger drumming on it. Now I'm explaining not defending!

You must be joking right? What sort of producer are you then that you dont look at your levels? Sort of "Mr. I can hear everything - even the gras growing " or something or are you trying to provoke without having any clue at all?!

Why would I look at my levels in a mixer strip? Give me one thing they can tell me that my ears cannot. Do you even understand their purpose? My Master level meter runs right across the top of my screen in Orion, it's about 1500 pixels long because it's kind of important, but the channel meters mean nothing in a software environment. Activity meters, a single blinking light, are all you really need. Of course, once I put a brickwall limiter on the master, those meters don't mean much, either. (And the first thing I always do is put a brickwall limiter on the master so that I don't have to obsess over levels.)
