Studio one 4.5 bounce issue

Why the audio file from vsti bounced is distorted in S1 4.5 if post fader is above -12dB, which is low !!!
If I bounce a midi clip and fader is above +12dB, the audio file is distorted ???

Beause it probably gets distorted along the way, for example you have an aggrssive compressor or limiter in there? Or literally a distortion effect? This sounds like a typical case of incorrect gain staging inside of the devices chain.dupont wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 10:48 am Why the audio file from vsti bounced is distorted in S1 4.5 if post fader is above -12dB, which is low !!!

no inserts on the track on the master, poster fader vu meter is not clipping, - 12 dB.antic604 wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:11 amBeause it probably gets distorted along the way, for example you have an aggrssive compressor or limiter in there? Same test with Reaper and bounced file is OK even if vu meter is at 0 dB.

Ok. Are you running both Reaper and Studio One at the same bit depth? What happens if you set Studio One's "resolution" for project to run at "32 bit float"?dupont wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 7:41 pmno inserts on the track on the master, poster fader vu meter is not clipping, - 12 dB.antic604 wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:11 amBeause it probably gets distorted along the way, for example you have an aggrssive compressor or limiter in there? For some as of yet unknown reason, my Expressive E Arché instruments sound like there is severe phase cancellation in some songs when I do a mixdown or bounce, but not during playback or when I record the output live to another track. It's very weird. You would think a mixdown and playback should be exactly the same, doing the same maths and just writing the output to a file instead of sending to your speakers, but apparently you'd be wrong. I discovered this on Cubase, too, back when I was a Cubaser.
It's all very strange.

THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Studio One bounces to 32-bit float so unless you're exporting a mixdown or stem at 24-bit it couldn't be clipping the file. Also, channel faders and meters max out at +10 so I have no idea how you'd get a fader set above +12 or for what typical reason a fader would be at +10.dupont wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 10:48 am Why the audio file from vsti bounced is distorted in S1 4.5 if post fader is above -12dB, which is low !!!

Does it? I couldn't find a setting for that (like Bitwig has, for example) and also nothing in the user manual. I thought that bounce precision is maybe tied to project's bit depth, hence my reply above; but I don't have any evidence for that either.
Not saying you're wrong about this, just curious as to source of that info?
EDIT: you seem to be correct - sorry

I made another test this morning.
32 or 64 bits same result, distorted bounced files.
I found there is an issue with the inserts on the master.
For example with CTC-1 on the master bypassed, custom mode with drive level near max, bounced file is distorted (even if CTC-1 is bypassed !)
Same vsti bounced but with no effects (I removed CTC-1) on the master is OK.
It seems effects bypassed state are not taken into account during bounce.
Another strange thing (
can't wait for saison 4) when I active and re bypass CTC-1, bounced file is no more distorted ?

No idea about the bypass thing but sure, if you're pushing the fader to +10 (?) and also setting the Drive level to near max in CTC-1 (?), you're overloading MixFX and causing more distortion from it.

I'm not sure if that's S1 issue or Softube - here's another 4.5 bounce issue. I've got Softube Modular track. When it was bounced it got pitched down by few semitones... weird

even if drive level is near max, it must not be bounced as CTC-1 is bypassed !LawrenceF wrote: Wed Jun 10, 2020 1:23 pm No idea about the bypass thing but sure, if you're pushing the fader to +10 (?) and also setting the Drive level to near max in CTC-1 (?), you're overloading MixFX and causing more distortion from it.

Update :
I made a mistake in previous posts, bounce issue happens with CTC-1 in master when CTC-1 is off not when it is bypassed. When bypassed and on no issue
Anyway, there is a biunce issue when an insert is on the master channel.
