Ya know, I don't take this crap seriously. It's just alittle lame that whenever someone wants to talk about trance, some asshole comes in and ruins it. It's not fair. You sit there, laugh and have fun all day making fun of people and their tastes in music. Is it really that funny? Are you really that easily ammused? I mean, come on... So damn predictable and immature that someone can't ask a simple question anymore without it being edited or made fun of. It's just stupid.spaceman wrote:maybe you're taking things too serious when you shouldn'tGoa Head wrote:I wasn't talking to you spaceman. I agree that it's really pretty useless and annoying to keep the whole "tarnce" thing up. Yes, everyone gets it, it's supposed to be humor, but almost no humor exists that does not have root in people's actual opinions. You're allowed to have those opinions, of course, I'm not saying that that's a problem. But postering those opinions in a thread meant to be constructive... that's not the way to present them. Go make you're own thread about how "tarnce sucks" and crack jokes or whatever if you really want.nuffink wrote:Anymore? Nuffink... I do know you, and have known you. I first stated " who the f**k is this guy?" because you were sticking your nose where it doesn't belong right off the bat.
I called you a prick cause you are one, and you know it. So, what does it matter?

Saturday day here.

Now to get back on topic:
Rellik wrote:Hmm... trance tips.
Well from my experience, the main thing about trance is to keep everything simple and punchy. Building a trance track is sort of like... ok, well no analogies, I'll just explain.
First you have your four on the floor kick. It doesn't have to be, but it's kind of a genre-defining aspect. Then you have your bass; the kick and the bass are the first two things you should really be considering. If they don't meld together like liquid, the rest of the track won't really have a solid base (or bass, for that matter).
What kind of bass, you say? Anything. Nothing too rezzy for the bass; you'll have plenty of rez in your other synths. Square, Saw, whatever. A sub wouldn't really do here. Just something with a nice punchy filter env.
As for kick, this is really not that complicated. It can be high and clicky or warbly, it can be low and plunky if you want; choose based on what kind of feel you want. Better yet, mix and match and layer.
Then you might want to add hi-hats. Really, I find that 909 open hats are the best for this type of thing (I've tried alternatives, it just makes it alot harder to make it actually fit into the sound). 909 hats are so popular for a reason. Don't make the beat too complicated; if you want to you can, but there's no real reason to if you're just trying to create trance. Snare isn't really too big a deal here.
Once you have all that, think of a cheesy chord progression (or not so cheesy if you wish) and implement it. Then you're off to adding your other synths.
What kind of synths? Any kind. Just make sure they're catchy. Lots of cut-off modulation. Sync and high-resonance are favorites. They don't have to be overly complicated; they just have to sound good and have lots of movement.
And that's just about it, besides compression, which I'm sure most people know more about than I do.
