hey that was what my dad always said, except at our house where we had a cellar we didn't have an ax and our camp witch had a few axes we had no cellar
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

OK, I have a vaguely on-topic little game for everyone to play while they wait. I got home this arvo and decided to have a look at RePro-1. When I could be arsed, it took me about two minutes to work out the tweaks. It wasn't quite as daunting as I remembered. Anyway, so I got to wondering how different/similar it might sound to some of the other emulations I have so I loaded a few of 'em up and did some playing around.
For each synth I started with the INIT patch. I made sure all the oscillators were running at the same level and that no detune had been applied. I then set the cutoff to zero and the ENV MOD to maximum and played around with the filter envelope until I got basically the same bassline kind of sound going. The DECAY is long enough that you can hear the filter closing. Then I applied an amount of RESONANCE that was pleasing to my ears, a level at which I might actually use it to make a bassline. So it's a little bit squelchy but not to silly. I recorded two bars of each synth playing the same note on every beat, tried to match the volumes of each using the level meters in ORION and then rendered it.
Then I turned the RESONANCE in OBSession up to maximum, because it needs pushing the most, and then tried to roughly match it with the other synths and recorded that. Then I stuck the two together, uploaded them and started typing this post.
Here's the audio http://www.novakill.com/stuff/EMULATORIES.ogg
The synths I've used, in no particular order, are V-Station (because it's awesome), Mono/Poly, Legend, Odyssey, RePro-1 and OBSession.
The game is, of course, to match the instruments to the sounds. While you're at it, you might want to download the file and look at it in Spectral view in your audio editor. If you do that you will see which filter spits out the most harmonic content and which one is a steaming pile of shit. I'll give you a hint - OBSession spits out the most and Legend's filter is a steaming pile of shit. I'll tell you the correct answers in the morning. It might also be of value to the community if you were to discuss which of the samples you actually prefer. I've listened to it a few times now and I am quite partial to the sound of the first synth and also the last one, although there is only really one that I couldn't get a decent sound out of (because it's filter is a steaming pile of shit).
Have fun, everybody!

INIT, whatever that does. Plus, as I explained, I made sure all the oscillators were at the same level. That's OSC 1 and OSC 2 in the case of OBSession.AnX wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2020 7:23 am did you adjust the range of the filter in OBsession? (voice edit page) how many voices are used (voices, not notes)?

FWIW this uses CEM 3372 chips like the Matrix-12, Prophet 600 and Prophet T8...
Or maybe he meant this:
Or this?

Bit hard to decipher what is what but... I think the synths audible at around 0:23 has the most "bite" to the resonant behavior.BONES wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2020 7:10 am Here's the audio http://www.novakill.com/stuff/EMULATORIES.ogg

My 3 favorites were at 23, 26 and 32 seconds, whatever they are.

Summed osc's sound different in repro 1 are diferent as opposed to repro 5mholloway wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2020 2:11 amJust FYI, as verified by Urs of U-He, Repro-5 is literally a polyphonic version of the Repro-1 code. The default filter modules have some differences between the two, but via the Tweaks page you can swap them out (and thereby use the Repro-1 filter in Repro-5, and vice versa). So liking the 'sound' of one better than the other really makes zero sense, as they are quite literally the same thing.

People tend to forget that a saw+ square summed output will always sound the same , this is not the case .
In one case ( when the saw is inverted ) the result is an almost doubled octave saw , in the other case you get that fat sh101 typical result

That's the start of the second round, with the resonance turned up on everything. I figured you'd all be able to keep track of six synths, played in the same order, twice. The one at 32 seconds is a steaming pile of shit. Seriously, have a look at the spectrum, it's awful. Truly great oscillators, ruined.wagtunes wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2020 10:33 amMy 3 favorites were at 23, 26 and 32 seconds, whatever they are.

So what synth is it then at 0:23? You wrote that they're in no particular order.BONES wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2020 12:20 pmThat's the start of the second round, with the resonance turned up on everything. My guess would be RePro.

Sounds quite alright in my book.
Has Front 242 written all over it, and that can only be a compliment.
Exactly the stuff i listened to 30+ years ago.
