Automatic volume leveler

Looking for recommendations on a VST plugin that can basically adjust the volume for me. I have recordings with dialog that have long periods of stable sound level, but some times the volume level drops by about -15dB and stays that way for a long time until it returns where it was. So the listener has to raise and lower the volume control occasionally. Is there a plugin that can bring the level up to normal whenever it drops and then readjust when the volume returns to normal? I am not looking for a compressor, just something that amplifies the sound whenever needed without causing side effects of compression.

Not sure which DAW you’re using, but there’s a free plugin for Reaper that can do gain riding called js: utility:volume_pan

I am not 100% sure if this can help you but you can read the details about this simple plugin. They also have 40% off sale right now,

If it really is just big blocks of level dips then you don't need a processor constantly working on it. Do it manually. If you have RX, use that, otherwise you can do it for free with Audacity. Don't be lazy, and screw Waves

Yeah the envelope tool in Audacity is great.MogwaiBoy wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2020 3:46 am If it really is just big blocks of level dips then you don't need a processor constantly working on it. Unless OP is on a current version of OSX, in which case he’s SOL. I don’t think Audacity has upgraded to 64-bit yet.

I find Waves Vocal Rider works best for me, but all the solutions mentioned above are good. MAutoVolume also isn’t bad, and WaveRider TG also looks good (though be aware of their activation scheme: iLok on USB or cloud iLok, but not on machine)

Outlaw is what I would use
https://www.waproduction.com/plugins/view/outlaw
A few notes: I only recommend this if you are comfortable setting timing on compressors. This is like Waves Vocal Rider but in expert mode with control of the ballistics. It's basically like a very smooth and transparent advanced compressor. If you are willing to wait it can be had on sale at some point.
Here's a free one

Don't know this one too well, but Sonic Anomaly does good work.

Does Outlaw produce harmonics? Why risk aliasing / truncation and add to the CPU load when you can just do it 100% transparently via manual method. OK, I'll stop bleating now

I stand by my "do it manually" advice but will admit to being a bit of a nana today.

I use the leveler portion of the powair compressor by sound radix for this... any more than a 6dB range and it starts to go a bit wild. Really useful though, for a dynamic lead vocal etc
