Are they? Other than the LA2A-type compressors that don't actually have an attack control are there many that wouldn't have a sufficiently slow attack to achieve "snap", at least according to your theory of it? Have you considered why that might not be the case.MogwaiBoy wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2020 10:27 pm Guys, they're looking for good compressors with a slower attack, that's all![]()
It sounds like you're committing the same lazy generalisation as the people you think you're criticising.
Shouldn't you be finding out what "snap" means in the context of the person asking? Then you might have a chance of working out what a valid response is.

See also: "warm", "fat", "punch", "depth", "soundstage", "clarity", "modern", "vintage", "mojo", "polish", "definition", "N-dimensional"... which ones did I miss?
There is a tendency to use subjective terms when we don't (yet) understand the phenomenon we're looking at. That makes sense when trying to understand a problem, e.g. "this sounds harsh, what do I do?" Well, harshness probably means too much treble, so look into that. But it could also mean some non-harmonic content from aliasing/resampling. Once you've identified the problem, don't look for a "de-harshener", look for a high shelf filter.

The lack of #snap inside this thread seems a little bit disturbing.
You can be creative in any right place on Earth, and not only in the wealthiest cities. Bring the world feelings from everywhere, and not only feelings of capitalistic or jail environment.

Would not even start about grittiness, I fear that super agressive know-it-alls will jump on my back accompanied by the grinding sound of their truly rusty knives.
