wondering if any one has any info or links to info on building a custom workspace for music production.
the last few years as i have really built up my studio i have been spoiled by having a seperate 13'X 19'structure on a seperate foundation as my music room. I have had the luxury of space and ability to use various tables and racks with being too concerned where it would go and how it would fit.
now i am moving to a smaller (but nicer) space where i am gonna have to consider this. the new studio space will be in a dedicated (apx) 12 X 12' room within an apartment and i will have to really maximize my space.
i have done some google searching and not come up with much (maybe my search terms suck i dunno..). I am hoping that someone here will have some links, tips, or blueprints that will help me create a workstation/surface with out a lot of capital. I am basically looking to create a corner or "U" shaped surface that will hold my two sets or reference monitors, my two VGA monitors, controller keyboard, and also incorperate rack space so i can loose my freestanding racks and these old crappy tables.
any help is appreciated.
oh btw - i have been a vistor of K-v-R for a couple years but a noob to the forums - so let this be my hello to all as well.

You might want to check out the studio-central forums: http://studio-central.com/phpbb/index.php
There's a forum for do-it-yourself projects, and also one for acoustics ("Studio monitors and acoustics"). I've seen some massive studio projects there, and the folks over there would probably be interested in helping with the kind of project you're talking about. There's also a forum for posting pictures of your studio, which is fun to look through.
Good luck.

I just build it as I go along...convert old furniture and such. I kave one of those table top type keyboard stands. I built a second tier (one I can stand on) when I neeeded to.
My mixer desk is from the legs of an old desk and the top is a piece of participle board so I can just replace it if I need a larger surface. I built a rack in the front ant put a big square hole under my dps12 so I could get at the back of the rack. (I put a nitelite in my rackrider for light and an old make up mirror behind against the wall)
The third piece is just an old typing table (or parts of)

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

well i can see i am not the only fan of ropelight.
i really like how you have the rack into the underside of the work space... reminds me how desprately i need a patch bay.
building as i have gone along is how i have been hanging so far. now that i have a decent aresenal that approach isn't going to work for me as i am trying to lose the ramdom aspect of converted furniture. i basically hope to take about a week and a half and build something out before i start to move my gear. once i do move my gear i want to be able to have a place for everything that i use on a regular basis and a super ergo set up with all the prime real eatate (area with in reach) dialed out.
damn - what are those BIG speakers?

No problem. Yes, that forum is not anywhere near as active as KVR, but the regulars there know what's going on.n.y.a.h. wrote:
