JJ MOTOWN BASS FOR KONTAKT!
If you are looking for a nice vintage-vibey bass with the typical growling attacks,
the "James Jamerson MOTOWN BASS" gives you a nice option.
This bass-library has got 10 Round Robbins (alternative samples) on each semitone and velocity layers.
About the guitar and the playing technique;
We used our Vintage 65 Fender, Precision Bass, with foam under the bridge with flat-wound strings and played just with the index finger just like James Jamerson did!
Gear used; ACME Motown D.I. & STUDER A80 Tape Recorder.
Here are the main features:
- JJ MOTOWN BASS.nkm for Kontakt 5.4.3 (48khz/24bit)
- easy to use interface
- controllable velocity hit for a mix-ready sound! Playing hard: note with growling attack / playing soft: smooth tone, good for a slidy tone change.
- easy control of playing sustain bass notes very convincingly: Modwheel for SUSTAIN/black "c" for STOPing sustain with humanized bass noise. That's all!
This enables a live performance to be presented very convincingly.
Above all, the number of RoundRobins and the ease of use of the controller makes this instrument a natural-sounding electric bass with the vintage feel of Motown.

The GUI is simple, but there is a lot going on under the hood. 10RR is quite a bit and the sustain option with "stop c" bass noise is a nice function for a bass instrument in this price range. Furthermore the quality of the samples is great.
Thanks for your transcendental comment.

Phenomenal bass library at a very affordable price. Such gems make me consider whether I should get Kontakt, even though I hate the whole Native Access online-required installation and activation scheme.
There are some seriously good singers out there, lots of talent, even though I guess we will not see again the amount and level of talent and skill that were characteristic for the Motown era.
I guess you will have to find your own Martha Reeves then

Past To Future "JJ Motown Bass for Kontakt" James Jamerson inspired Vintage 65 Fender Precision Bass with foam under the bridge with flat-wound strings and played just with the index finger for Kontakt ($5) until 23 March
