Nice, this is really helpful!creativesauce wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2020 9:43 amHi folks! Continuing with my Studio One Basics series, I've made a tutorial looking at the key tools available for mixing - including routing, busses, FX channels, and VCAs!
Do you know if there's any way to have Folder Tracks *always* be busses? I'm used to that kind of setup from Live/Bitwig and I don't really see why would anyone need a folder that's NOT a bus or a bus that's not a folder, but that's just me
Also, will you be doing a video about MIDI routing? I find it pretty confusing, really.

I always use folders and busses separately.antic604 wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 9:36 am I don't really see why would anyone need a folder that's NOT a bus or a bus that's not a folder, but that's just me![]()

Folders are like "synths", "swooshes/risers", "percussion", "kick + bass", just to make the project view more organized and tidy. This doesn't necessarliy corresponds to the busses I have in the mixer, I have few bass channels going to the same bus which then goes into the kick/bass bus, or have several sub-busses for various synths etc. I can also have folders for something which is not supposed to be a part of the mix at all, like mixing references or unused parts of chopped audio stems etc.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

Right, that makes a lot of sense!recursive one wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 11:28 amI always use folders and busses separately.antic604 wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 9:36 am I don't really see why would anyone need a folder that's NOT a bus or a bus that's not a folder, but that's just me![]()

Perhaps because I started with Live & then Bitwig I 'forced' myself to not distinguish too much between the two, so Groups (Folder Tracks in Bitwig speak) are used as an organisational tool to keep together similar elements - bass / drones, kick & percussions, acid lines, melodies, atmospheres /pads, fx - and I rarely ever do any processing on Groups, other than perhaps some general high-passing and control of excessive top-end resonances. If I want to have 2+ instruments playing at the same time (call & response kind of thing, for example) and I want it processed together then I'd simply take advantage of Bitwig's Layer devices and have 2+ instruments on one track, sequenced from same MIDI clips but using different MIDI channels and then I can pass them through individual & then common FX Chains. I'm sort of obsessed with keeping the track count to minimum (4-track ProTracker background says hello!
