didn't know what this was 'til I googled it. Looks pretty great... my keyboard controller is drifting toward obsolescence. If I have a Beatstep Pro, though... would this augment, or confuse things, do you think? just making mental shopping lists...

i went through so many but couldn't find one with enough controls.
So i built my own.

That's a very expensive midi controller. I suppose in remote mode we can easily make templates for each VST, and then switch to the correct template on the synth whenever needed. I never did get round to that though.

Novation Impulse: Bought in January. Instantly hated the screen, loved the keybed, nice pads and simple design, looks great, wasn't a fan of loads of new .dll files due to automapping. The screen on this for me was a huge FAIL! no contrast control, the viewing angle is good only from the wrong side of the keyboard.

Nektar P6: Bought last month. Love the screen, especially being able to see what the dial is mapped to before you move it, not so fussed on the keybed, I do like the raised black keys though, pads could be better (no back lighting, which is an absolute essential feature), nice to have the extra pads, MOTORISED FADER YES! design being wackier makes it one of them, you're not quite sure if you actually like her look or not. Mapping things on this is amazing, only problem being lots of VST creators are lazy and haven't coded all the parameters in a way that can be grabbed, to which you'd have to revert to the old skool style mapping, which still works quite well.

I've read that the rubberised coating goes bad on the knobs on the Nektar, this happens quite a lot with many things to which only time reveals. It's a pain to clean off but rubbing alcohol is supposed to be the trick, stripping things back to the plastic. I've done it on old Pioneer CDJ jog wheels, the outer edge part, and it worked on them.

not sure if he's around anymore.
it's powered by 5 x UMC32. second revision i think.
it was a fun build.
f**king expensive though.

Flowstone is wicked for interfacing with hardware
I have coupled it with a 8x8 soundcards-
so for example I can create a knob with a pot and osc out and fed back,
I could read high frequency amplitude
--but it would only be 8 per $500 aud

I have the Arturia Keylab 88 which is built like a tank. I like it a lot, great pianoish-action, but I'd happily lose the drum pads and have narrower faders to have more real estate on top of the unit so I could fit another desktop style synth there (already use it with a Boog Model D).

Hmmmm.....I dont know much about the beatstep pro to be honest. My only setup is the SL Mk3, a Korg Minilogue XD and Ableton with lots of VST's

The SL really shines with external hardware and Ableton. I use the SL to control the Minilogue and then the Ableton integration is basically like a Push 2 but with a keyboard.
I have the 49 key version but Im really thinking I should have gone for the 61 at this point.
The 49 key seems to be available very cheap in Canada at the moment for $499

I would check out the SL Mk3 videos at Novation TV on youtube plus loopop review etc. There are some really good ones showing off all the features which basically sold me in the end. I certainly haven't regretted the choice.

Not too far but not yet. The big minus is you can’t access the browser from the Novation (or whatever controler, it seems Ableton doesn’t allow it except for its own push. What a pity)
SL mkIII is great, keybed really is a keybed not a collection of switches

I love my NI Komplete Kontrol S61 Mk1. Best controller keyboard i owned so far.

In the past i had also used synths like e.g. a Yamaha Motif ES 7 as a controller. Still got it but have not used it for a while.

Currently as a second controller i use a Korg Wavestation EX that i own since 2005 (has wheels instead of the usual Korg mod joystick). Some years ago i replaced the display backlight. The Wavestation EX is like an "old friend" and i might use it for a while until it dies. Paid 300 € for it back in 2005.

The Komplete Kontrol and Wavestation are the only 2 keyboards that i actually use at the moment.

My two cents (and I have both) - The BeatStep Pro is still a big part of my system. Maybe it is being lazy, to not have remade the BSP tracks to the MKIII... but it keeps things neat and ordered - using a BSP along with the MKIII (some of the BSP tracks.. get reused across multiple MKIII sets, etc.

Anyway - the BeatStep Pro has not been replaced by the MKIII in my own setup. It augments it.

I tested both the S49 and the SL49 MKIII before I purchased the SL. I would say that if you are primarily invested in NI then the KK S series is a better option. For me, as primarily an Ableton user with a few NI instruments, a hardware Korg Minilogue XD and a few VSTi's the SL Ableton and hardware integration was a deciding factor...well, and the fact that I got a great deal on the SL49 MKIII as well.

I have an s61 mk2 and I like the semi-weighted key action. It almost feels like a piano with the key vibrations. Would've been nice if it had more features on it such as pads, more knobs, and faders, but it's still good as it is. I have a maschine mk3 too which is really nice. The pads are amazing.

I have so many controller options that the question doesn’t really even make sense from my perspective. Different things get rotated in and out depending on needs and whims at any given time.
