Hi everybody! Sorry to do this to ya, but I am hoping to find out if there is something that I am missing. I currently work almost exclusively in Reason, and have done so for many years. I have tried versions of cubase and sonar as hosts with little satisfaction. Please note that most of my creations in Reason where never intended to be published and many are loop length rather than full tracks. What I want from my host is VST compatibility, rewire etc. In general, an ability to take what I have already written in Reason pair that with my dj setup, some vst effects, loops, and very little syth use. It will run on an Up to date PC with an EMU 0404 soundcard, and I use an Oxygen8 for my midi. I would love this to be inexpensive and run in realtime for effecting live mixes. Any input is appreciated!!!

Also I like Tracktion... although I hear its midi capabilities are lacking!!
It's my perogative.

Ableton Live will do exactly what you say.
Rewire, effects, live use, djing, etc...

Thanks for your reply, any experience with different versions and is it worth the cost vs. using something like traction for production and limited live use?

Live v2 would do you fine.

I'm not that familiar with Traktion, but I've heard people say that it has horrible sound stretching (warping?). I dunno, maybe you can download a demo to check that out.

Live v2 may be hard to find right now, I think a lot of people were trying to get it cheap and upgrade to 4. I wouldn't be too put off by the "live" aspect of Live. It is a great remixing tool and a fast, reliable way to work with audio. Steinberg was selling a cheap version of Live called "Remix". I think another kvr user named scuzzphut bought it. I don't think it has rewire though.

Anyways, I'm 95% sure that Live is the tool that you want. I hope you can save up your $$ and pick it up.

erik, Tracktion will do fine if you don't want to spend the big bucks for Live.

The midi capabilities are rather limited and a bit outdated, but don't forget that version 2 is in the works, and will hopefully not be too long away. Midi is supposedly one of the things that will be updated.

As far as I know you will get a discounted upgrade price to T2 if you own T.
