Just ordered one of these today, anybody else have one. I am pretty good with a soldering iron (built the Paia Fatman several years ago and was successful with that) Building is no problem, learning to play the thing is another matter. Any tips and tricks on developing technique?

not much to it really, pretty much as simple as waving...Soniccat wrote:Just ordered one of these today, anybody else have one. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Ok, will try that when I get it built. Of course it will probably take years to wave in the correct way.
I have a friend who is an expert on all things Theremin and she can't play it very well either.

if you're left-handed, build the cabinet with the antennae switched. because the front plate on it is metal, the sensitivity is different playing it 'from the back,' so you can't build it as is and just turn it round.. the range of pitch responsivity is drastically shorter.. like 2 octaves in a foot, which isn't very useful.
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

My friend bought one of thoses a few years ago. It's very cool. Has for tips for playing theses: You only need a good ear for pitch.
I've seen a few shows of people playing theremin but they weren't going for melodies, they were just waving like somebody about to be runned over by a train.

I didn't say nobody knew how to play one but the ones I saw didn't.
I haven't seen the song remains the same in a long time but wasn't Jimmy page playing the theremin or something?

I built a couple of those for friends. They are one of the best sounding Theremins I have heard. Really nice design. I liked them so much that I am considering getting one of those snazzy Etherwave Pros.

I would have thought you had one of these already. You always have the nicest gear.
I have been told that it is the only theremin currently built that sounds close to the original. I am a woodworker by trade, built myself a number of guitars so I am excited about building a nice cabinet for it as well.

I have been meaning to check that movie out, this is a good opportunity to do that. Page is a master with the bow I should get one of those too.just watch the song remains the same

I do have a couple of Theremins that I built. My main Theremin is a combination of bits from the Big Briar, the Paia (for the CV outs) and other things. I am definitely no woodworker, but I managed a crappy "U-job" cabinet for it. Still, I love the look of that new Big Briar Etherwave Pro...

And there is an actual Theremin solo on the track called "War" on this EP:

The latter isn't online anywhere, I'm afraid. Both are pretty old tracks, so you'll have to forgive any inadequacies in the performances and recording...
