I've been really happy with the TB EQ4, looking forward to their new compressor. It certainly LOOKS shiny and wonderful!

I never got along with the bus compressor (to complicated for me) but I always liked the TB track compressor. A new compressor from TB is definitely worth a look, although I really don’t need another compressor

Well TB has a multi-band compressor so if it would be as simple as that, I suspect that is how they would describe it? It seems to suggest there's something more to it...?

I personally would love to see a compressor that can compress a single band only, but has a wide-band side chain with a full EQ on it (so that the level of the compressor is not just determined by what is in the *same* band, as it is with 99.9% of all multi-band compressors....). Hoping that this new gem would be able to do this

Isn't that just basically what a multiband compressor does? Multiple selected frequency ranges of compression... Not really innovative anymore, is it?

Trackspacer is a whole different ball game imho

Just adding some notes here.

For something like de-essing (or de-harsh) TB already gave us TB Sibalance 3, which is like a multiband (many bands) compressor applying in the high range. Works very well.

For placing one or a few bands to duck via sidechain, TB already gave us TB Flx 3, which is a dynamic EQ with speed controls that can be used very much like a compressor.

As a point of comparison, DSM v3 by PA is a much more complicated beast, more like Sibalance (or a multiband behavior like Trackspacer) but for the whole spectrum and with control of the frequency curve.

So taking all of that into account, then this new compressor having a frequency zone control may not be the most innovative thing (although certainly more than most compressors). However, there's a ton to be said about the implementation and convenience. I expect a TB compressor to sound great, be low CPU, and be easy and convenient to use. In that regard, I welcome an opportunity to test this new compressor, even if what I really wanted was a proper successor to TB Bus Comp 3 (with all the same bells and whistles refined and expanded).

Multiband has, well, multiple bands... so you can't call it that. C1 calls it "split" mode - which when combined with C1's upward/downward expansion/compression functionality can do everything from de-essing to de-rumbling to de-hissing to de-popping to hf exciting you name it...

Yeah...EQ4 is similar to Pro C3 to a fault. I once pointed out on this forum that the floating window in C3 with the knobs has made its way into so many other EQ plugins like ToneBoosters' and people were getting pissed at me like I was questioning Jeroen's integrity. But whatever. They're just tools. I'm gonna probably by this thing anyway the second it comes out.

User interface designs do tend to follow certain trends, so it makes sense that if one successful plugin users a certain kind of GUI, others will follow. iZotope also switched to floating controls in Ozone 9/Neutron 3. I'm sure there are many more examples.

The whole trend with "flat" and minimalist GUIs is directly influenced by mobile app designs. Before the onslaught of mobile apps, plugins went for a more pseudo-3D, photorealistic look. It's not just GUIs, either. It seems every company is changing their logos to be more monochrome, flat and simple.

Hmm. According to the site, customers who bought the bus tools or track essentials bundle after Jan 2016 “may qualify for a discount”. I bought the bus tools in 2018 but don’t see anything in my 2co.com account. Well, need to demo it first anyways to see if it offers something that all my other compressors don’t

To me, there's one word that pops in my mind after a few minutes of demoing (and buying, of course. mind you, I rarely buy plugs for the last year or so. at any price range) :

Uncanny.

Jeroen Breebaart's seems to infinitely stretch the envelope of UX - each and every time.

One of his (past) colleagues (who attended a forum I was a member of) described him as "plain genius".
And not without a reason, may I add

Gave it a quick demo and have to say: congrats to fabfilter for being such an inspiration to other devs ui/ux and sound

Indeed it doesn't sound bad in the few mixes I tried. The only thing I'd actually be interested in is the frequency zone compression though.
Lookahead seems to be fixed at 3ms if enabled. Don't know what the slider assist does because besides some flickering in the knobs nothing changes. Having a complete ratio independent resizing of the window is cool.

Looks like a 3-band EQ on the sidechain, consistent with the emphasis EQ on Reelbus 4. Very promising! And support for exceptionally soft knees and high ratios. Not clear from the preview what the frequency cutoff slopes are like on the "compression zone".
