Would you be willing to sacrifice 2/3 of your mod matrix slots for it, though? RePro 5 only has two mod slots. I agree it's PITA but it's one of those things that you have to accommodate in an emulation - if you deviate to far from the original, purists will get upset so you have to hide that stuff where they don't have to look at it.

DDMF Metaplugin (effects) comes with Metasynth (synths, of course). Yes, you can brute force an oversampling of 1x, 2x, 4x, and 8x. I absolutely hear a difference in the tails of things when I force oversampling in Obsession in Metaplugin - it sounds better... perhaps a tiny bit less digital.zvenx wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2020 1:22 am Don't know much about Metasynth. It allows you to change the OS of plugins?
I read somewhere on kvr that Legend was either 4x or 8x oversampling (not from Richard). Have no idea if it is true, but the assumption was Obsession would be too.
Now curious to know what it is.

I don't get that comment since the Xa didn't produce a triangle waveform, either, afaik.BONES wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2020 2:57 amIf you did that it would cease to be an OB-Xa emulation. You can add stuff to extend the original but once you start replacing original features with new things, it is no longer going to be an emulation.e-crooner wrote: Sat Jun 20, 2020 11:09 pmI would not have included two triangles, but triangle for osc 1 and sine for osc 2.
So if they added a triangle, why not a sine as well for osc 2?
Also, the synth is way beyond the hardware, anything but a mere emulation.
Just like Arturia's. I have not downloaded that one, but judging from their site, I would like their emulation better (GUI, features), except for the sound quality, which is probably inferior (I am just guessing based on reputation).

The OB-8 had Triangles for both Oscs like it is now possible in OBsession and FWIW this is one of my favorite additioanl features in OBsession (compared to a real OB-Xa). AFAIK the Behringer UB-Xa will have it too.e-crooner wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2020 5:19 amI don't get that comment since the Xa didn't produce a triangle waveform, either, afaik.BONES wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2020 2:57 amIf you did that it would cease to be an OB-Xa emulation. My "FMed Piano IW" factory preset uses 2 Triangles and X-Mod (same with a few other patches) and both are not available in a real OB-Xa. That patch also uses X-Mod modulation by the filter envelope. X-Mod was included in the OB-X but not with a knob, just on/off.
Anyway having a sort of additional switch to have a Sine available too would be a nice addition. Not sure how this could be added in the current GUI but it might be possible.

havent heard it but, OSC 2 tone? what's that?revvy wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2020 4:06 am Synthesis question:

The "Gold French KS" patch has the filter envelope assigned to both "Osc 2 Semi" and "LFO 2 Rate" and the Osc 2 Semi modulation works as a pitch envelope. With the amount in this patch it only has a small effect but if you crank up the mod amount beyond +30 you get a typical/classic Sync sound.revvy wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2020 4:06 am Synthesis question:

Additionally a Step LFO in One Shot mode is assigned to Cutoff which gives a nice sounding attack for this patch and concerning sound design seems to be an important part of this one.
Velocity is used to modulate the Filter envelope attack and Envelope amount so quite a lot of modulations going on with this patch.
I had used the filter envelope as a pitch envelope in my "F-Env Pitch Brass IW" preset but this by far is not as complex as that Horn sound from Kevin. Velocity modulation for the Cutoff was used in a few of my patches including the "FMed Piano IW" patch mentoiioned in my previous post.

Cheers. I miswrote, pitch I meant, not tone. I'll read Ingo's response now, see if it answers my Qn
Edit: or what I meant to say "If you take off the Sync, the pitch of OSC 2 falls, as it's been assigned to Filter Env.Why set up this play between pitches? (maybe my question doesn't make sense)"

Thanks for the answer Ingo, much for me to think about there.Ingonator wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2020 6:08 amThe "Gold French KS" patch has the filter envelope assigned to both "Osc 2 Semi" and "LFO 2 Rate" and the Osc 2 Semi modulation works as a pitch envelope. My specific question really relates to pitch - If you take off the Sync, the pitch of OSC 2 falls, as it's been assigned to Filter Env.Why set up this play between pitches? (maybe my question doesn't make sense)

This new synth doesn't disappoint in any regards.
Fortunately, though, I have learned that I can get very close to what you get from VAs, using wavetable synths, so I won't feel compelled to pull the plug on this thing.
P.S.
The reverb is pretty stellar, especially for an onboard effect.

The Reverb is indeed very nice, especially with the Shimmer and Regen parameters used.Ghost Dog wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2020 6:57 am The reverb is pretty stellar, especially for an onboard effect.

This is the first thing I composed using the new Synapse Obsession synth. I used 6 instances of Obsession, a drum loop, and a percussion loop. The bell and one of the lead sounds are ones I created when first checking it out.

Another quality release from Synapse Audio and at a great price. Demo on the website sounds really nice.
I don't need another vst, so I'm won't be going in depth here, but what can I say? Not surprised this is another quality product.

Stellar plugin , but as with any other piece of synapse software I am still having the issue that when the gui shows , the cpu (taskmanger ) rises to 50 % ( no audio processing )
Closing the gui solves it

If you're a so-called VST junkie, there's certainly a place for both of these as your stash.zvenx wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2020 1:52 amOnce again proving how sound aesthetics is very personal.Marco Leronso wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2020 1:26 am I tried the demo but I am not hearing any real advantages over the Arturia version.
Maybe Synapse were sucker punched by Arturia? Knocked down and out before they even got out of the ring.
This maybe will sound strange but if Synapse have released their version first things could have been different?
Before I heard Obsession, I was very disappointed by Arturia's version. After hearing Obsession, beyond the GUI, preset browser and variety in presets I can't possible imagine wanting to own the Arturia's version unless it was close to free, cause I am a vst junkie.

They have different features that makes both great and fun, so why you're so disappointed in Arturia's version just seems like an agenda.
This Synapse version isn't "all that".
There are two kinds of people in the world. And you're not one of them.
