I'm still on Cubase SX 2 myself, but FWIW, the SX 3 review in the latest issue of CM (#79) included the following comment:
_mtComputer Music Magazine (CM79) wrote:It's claimed that SX 3 is better optimised than previous versions of Cubase, so it was a big disappointment to find that our old SX 2 projects actually consumed measurably more CPU than before.

Sorry to hear about you getting messed around with your upgrade purchase, just so you know ,you're not on your own .ttoz wrote:I was originally entitled to a very cheap upgrade because i bought SX2 on July 25th, and anyone who bought it after July 20 was entitled to the cheap price. Since then all information in the forums about this has disappeared, and steinberg have conveniently changed the date to August 1st cutoff. The australian dealer hasn't botherd to answer my emails in 4 weeks either. he answered the first one, said to send him my receipt, so i did, then he disappeared. asshole.
SO basically SX3 upgrade is going to cost me $299 AU like any other aussie. I don't care too much about the new features, as I did examine the pdf in depth, except for 2 things. in place midi editing in arrange page and audio engine optimizations. specifically with the latter, I want to know if anyone has noticed any significant difference in cpu usage with their old sx2 projects loaded into sx3. cheers
I ordered it nearly three weeks ago and no word here
either.
ttoz you should really go for the minimum priced upgrade ,I registered sx2 in may and I was a little bit p**sed off but july 25th... dude !!
anyway thanks for bringing the other issues (better engine ,cpu usage) up as now that my guy has decided not to follow through with my order and give me my upgrade I'm thinking maybe I won't just yet.
Actually there is a independant guy in Au selling the SX3 from SX2 upgrade for $279au , I'll see if I can find the link

Here you go ,

as far as I know, Allans are cutting a bit off if you ask for a better price.

i like it a lot ,specially the new audio routing options and improved automation.
regarding CPU usage it´s about the same ,a bit less IMO .
on my system scored ,at least, 5% less on the % towers benchmark.
let´s nor forget the much improved freeze functions that now really works well.
about the rest of the improvemmenrs like warp audio
i tried it but don´t bother to use it anymore as i found the m-pex tool a lt more accurate and easy to use.
all he best

on SX2 songs that i open i SX3, there is about 10-15% more CPU used according to the cpu meter.
but on fresh SX3 songs.. it seems about the same.. SX3 uses about 3% more cpu on my system.

You might be seeing some reports coming in with higher VSTi percentages on existing projects due to Cubase SX3 doing a better job of establishing how much processor headroom a particular plug-in takes. I've seen on my own system with SX2 where the output broke up when the VSTi meter was nowhere near 100%. I'm looking forward to upping to SX3 and trying those same projects in SX3 (after Steinberg releases their first patch). My guess is that I'll see a much higher standing VSTi meter level in those cases.

What routing options are now available? That one interests me. I have workarounds, but things like FX channels lack of routing irritates me still.i like it a lot ,specially the new audio routing options and improved automation.

nope still cannot route FX channels.
i just use groups as send FX anyway..
i don't see a benifit in using FX sends (besides being able to choose your FX when creating the FX send)
