Just want to also thank Ingo and Bones for the patch banks, very nice gesture guys-- 152 extra sounds between them.
Thank you both.

The Tom Sawyer patch was done on an OB-X and AFAIK ths could not do filter FM whicht is what filter modulation with Osc1 would do. OBsession like the OB-X has Osc X-Mod (Osc crossmodulation aka "analog FM") which works between the oscilators but not with the filter.Chrisk-K wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2020 6:11 pm I'm curious about one thing. Can Obsession modulate the filter cutoff frequency with Osc 1? (a la the Tom Sawyer sweep sound)
FWIW i just replicated the "Rush Sawyer Bass" patch found in the OP-X Pro II "famous" bank (I am using demo version of OP-X Pro II for this) in OBsession . The curent version of the patch sounds quite nice so far. Due to the filter differences in OB-X and OB-Xa they do not sound indentical.

BTW,
that VCA saturation switch on the back, it's not subtle at all despite what manual claims, and it is very good, don't forget folks bout that switch when you're making patches from scratch.
Also, filter in 4 pole mode is for me pretty much best filter in VST land, sorry Bones. 2 pole is good but not as good, at least it's better than other 2 pole filters around.

Yes, they are bother really good, both contain some gems I would personally have picked for the launch pre-setsraiderpdog wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2020 6:22 pm Just want to also thank Ingo and Bones for the patch banks, very nice gesture guys-- 152 extra sounds between them.

An audio demo of the Tom Sawyer patch i just created based on the patch in OP-X Pro II:Ingonator wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2020 6:28 pm FWIW i just replicated the "Rush Sawyer Bass" patch found in the OP-X Pro II "famous" bank (I am using demo version of OP-X Pro II for this) in OBsession . OBSession - Tom Sawyer Demo 1
After i noticed that they used the 24dB LPF in that OP-X Pto II patch and not the 12dB it indeed sounded closer to both the patch in OP-X Pro II and the original video of Rush. The 24dB LP in OBeession has a different Resonance behavior than the 12dB LP but also has less low end at high resonance (while teh 12dB LPF keeps all the low end). Even with the reduced low end the 24dB LPF in this patch sounds really nice IMHO.
PS:
The current factory presets do not seem to include the Tom Sawyer patch but AFAIK there was one created by Kriminal (aka AnX) that i do not have here for comparison. Seemed to be included in an old installer.

I see. I read somewhere that someone nailed the sound with Osc 1 modulating the cutoff frequency. Obviously, he was using a different synth. Anyway, I love the sound of filter cutoff modulation at audio rate. When I get back home, I'll test how fast the LFO rate can be.Ingonator wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2020 6:28 pmThe Tom Sawyer patch was done on an OB-X and AFAIK ths could not do filter FM whicht is what filter modulation with Osc1 would do. Yes we shouldn't even be looking for those tiny imaginary differences between Obsession and Arturia OB-Xa V. We should just play them as the instruments and not be nerdy.Teksonik wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2020 3:50 pm Looks like it didn't take long for some people to break out the microscopes and look for every tiny imaginary flaw.
Oh well that's the difference between musicians and nerds, between those who play synths and those who play with them.![]()

I'm trying to follow this conversation here but am having a little trouble doing that. So what essentially do we have here? Is this an OB-Xa? Is it an OB-X? Is it a combination of the two? Is it something else? Because based on some of the findings from what I'm understanding, there are either some things that are missing or have been added.
What would be great is if somebody who has both Obsession and a hardware OB-Xa and or an OB-X could go through the specs of each and point out the differences.
Thanks.

Probably the whole OB series in one plugin.

Playing a bit more with the demo now. A feature that might get me over the edge to buy is the nice access to per voice settings and the option to enable and disable voices. This opens the door for a lot of interesting creative possibilities in the vein of how some paraphonic synths work (I'm thinking mostly about the Sequential Pro 3 atm) where you can get very interesting patterns happening by transposing every 3rd voice for example and then playing an arp pattern that's for example 4 notes, so that the 3rd voice keeps shifting around within the pattern, and so forth. I'd suggest opening up the options more to allow changing the waveforms and other settings per voice too to open up even more of those possibilities. A bit odd maybe to have this on a synth that's an emulation, but on the other hand, it's almost there already

Sounds pretty good to me! Care to post the patch? (my faveroute TS patch is on my P8 hardware, be good to try them side by side)Ingonator wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2020 7:01 pmAn audio demo of the Tom Sawyer patch i just created based on the patch in OP-X Pro II:Ingonator wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2020 6:28 pm FWIW i just replicated the "Rush Sawyer Bass" patch found in the OP-X Pro II "famous" bank (I am using demo version of OP-X Pro II for this) in OBsession . Was the filter track control really either 0 or 100 percent? Sounds like two rather extreme options to choose from
How about a half-lit LED (like with the OSC2 to filter button) indicating 50%?

Obsession is very OB-Xa, down to it's-not-a-bug-but-a-feature selfosciallting peculiarity of CEM3320wagtunes wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2020 7:36 pm I'm trying to follow this conversation here but am having a little trouble doing that. I noticed it actually becomes very subtle if they are gain matched, I don't know if that's what the manual referred to.urosh wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2020 6:29 pm BTW,

Switching it on gives it about 3 dB boost, but once properly gain matched it's not so easy to tell them apart.
