Not better price particularly, but more likely to be useful for a scoring beginner with a not-too-new computer (2015 27-in. iMac, w/24G Ram):

Any thoughts welcome—TIA!!

Well, this is far from apples to apples comparison.
You do get an orchestra w. VE Pro, but it’s pretty basic.
Last year VSL made some improvements to Epic Orchestra, but the number of articulations looks more or less like their demo libraries in Kontakt.
That said, the EWQL product is seriously long in the tooth, and that price reflects that.
Also note that this time expiring push you see is bullshit. They’ll do the same sale again not far down the road unless they exhaust their stock. But the price is unremarkable, it reflects the current market.
The Play engine is so inferior to VSL’s Vienna Instrument it isn’t even funny.

If you do plan on getting serious about orchestration, get VEP7 on sale, just do it.
You will get the basic Vienna Instrument with the Epic Orchestra, so three licenses. Which reside on a Steinberg dongle.
I cannot recommend anything EWQL Play. To my worldview EWQL been fumbling the ball since the 00s, ie., kinda all along.

Thanks!
I'm more than OK with the demo sounds of the EW offering, and like the added choirs, certainly…and DON'T like the idea of spending an extra $30 on another dongle…
So, basically just a hobbyist synth player looking for some new sounds, not moving to a new level of compositional thinking. And also having a tough time wading through all the networking and multi-computer options in the Vienna universe, which are definitely not anything I'd be doing.
I wouldn't say that's a good description for me; I guess "a scoring beginner" wasn't a well chosen phrase. I'm just wanting some orchestral sounds with at least a few added articulations, moreso than in this UVI collection for instance. If you do plan on getting serious about orchestration…

I’ve used VEP exclusively on a single MBP since 2017.
See the other thread here; w. Smart Spheres they are after a hybrid of acoustic basis and electronic, a few patches come w. Epic 2.

Now I am confused.jancivil wrote: Mon Jun 22, 2020 9:22 pm That’s right. The three VEP licenses ended w. v.7.
I’m referring to 1) VEP; 2) Vienna Instrument; & 3) Epic Orchestra.
What is VEP vs VEP v7? Just an older version?
And aren't we discussing VEP v7, the one on sale?
Very confused.

Before v.7 the purchase gave you 3 VEP licenses. For a higher price than is current iirc.
Any purchase of VEP gets you three products: VEP; a Vienna Instruments license, which has the upgrade path to VI Pro; and an Epic Orchestra license.
