So I guess it's going to pass me by, but if he is going to release stuff away from them, I might still get a DS synth in the Future.
Buy it, forget PA. As simple as that and exactly what I did after buying Lion and Thorn.

I don't see DS Thorn getting any updates, and even if it gets, you would just need to visit PA website once to download it.

Just saying this so that you don't miss the golden opportunity to get it for as cheap as $15. At that price, you don't need to think of reselling it (although that is easy too). :tu:
$15 ??? Where is it going for that ? >< I saw $49.99

It was available for $39.99 on PA website and with $25 user survey voucher, it could be purchased for $14.99, or $19.99 with the summer voucher. But you are late, the sale has already ended. It might come back towards the end of this month since this quarter is ending.

Yeah it wasn't life or death for me, getting involved with PA isn't something I am going to look forward to anyway. But if that offer comes about again i'll get it. Otherwise I won't lose any sleep. DS Made a big mistake going with PA.

What's with all the hate for PA? Genuinely curious.

their non-sale prices are kind of absurd and people hate subscriptions. I hear some of their plugins have bugs that go unaddressed for ages. The oberheim synth is a notable example of something that was supposedly utterly broken and didn't get patched for a long time if ever.

Beyond that, i don't know. maybe people find their marketing obnoxious. I had that same attitude toward them before they finally lured me in with some sale prices and now I personally find brainworx to be one of the best sounding devs. Several of their plugs are as good as any of my UAD ones and IMO much better than Waves - the vertigo plugs, townhouse comp, bx opto, black box and Phils cascade, to name a few, are plugs I would hate to live without. And the smaller companies under their umbrella like Unfiltered or Dmitry Sches are great too

their sales are attractive and their copy protection is unobtrusive. their online installers are very convenient and optional for people who can't or don't want to use online auth. As far as I'm concerned they've pretty much always done right by me

I too have been sucked in :hihi:. I picked up Thorn (currently my fave synth) at such a ridiculous price last year then Lion last week and now Dent 2 for free with my voucher. I have no complaints with PA, at all. :tu:

@jethrobull Agree. I personally thought I am happy with only LION and Thorn as far as PA is concerned, but got Sandman Pro + Dent 2 (along with freebies Instant Delay and Indent) for $10. Absolutely nothing to complain, in fact appreciation. :tu:

One tip for anyone interested: If you have a spare USB drive connected to your PC (like I have for Waves licenses), you can create a second PA account to use the vouchers twice and then move those second account licenses to only USB. So, one account will use machine ID/PC and other will use USB drive. This is noted in PA activation manual as well, so it's officially allowed.

Cool synth, well worth the price.

I’d like to see UA start offering library expansions for their instruments. There’s probably a few out there, but having them listed in one spot makes things so much easier to find.

Post

I hate to be that guy, but can we keep the topic on Thorn? UA is great, but they have their own threads.

Post

As for Thorn itself, I’m increasingly using it for big, ethereal pads. You can get some really interesting digital textures out of it that you couldn’t with a big virtual analog like Repro.

Post

any recommendations on soundsets for Thorn? there are plenty of offers around but I would like opinions from users.
