Even if it means extra work you wouldn't have to do with something else? That makes no sense to me at all, particularly in the context of your next comment (below).
Especially In my circumstance where I'm writing with other people, I don't have time to fiddle around with a plethora of tools. The less tools I have, the better. YMMV
Surely this is all the more reason to use more versatile tools?

I tend to start with simple sounds then use processing to mould them to where I want them to be. In light of that, despite using many synths over the years, I keep falling back to linplug alpha. Dead simple to use and enough presets to get me started in the right direction if needed.

Besides that it's a whole bunch of old or free plugs just sitting in the misc folder which get quite regular use; DuneCm, TyrellN6, Rhino (though still find it a pain to program), Thorn CM, Surge... And Reaktor covers pretty much anything else I may want to do.

lately its been bitwigs grid.

I've been pretty impressed so far.

My most used plugin currently is Reason Rack. Now it can be used as an audio or MIDI effect as well as instrument it's become massively flexible and useful at all parts of the workflow.

Are you safe?

Probably Synth1 or Dexed, along with Korg Legacy stuff like M1, Wavestation, and Triton, as well as Sound Canvas VA, which is for more General MIDI sounding stuff.
Many paid and free VSTs as well as Kontakt libraries. As well as HW synths/drum machine and acoustic instruments.

Prophet 12 is probably my most used synth currently, but Hades, SH-2, Jupiter 8 and Pro 2 are not far behind.

As far as softsynths go it's Bazille followed by Omnisphere. Rather close race there, and I probably use those two more than all other softsynths I own combined.

And I don't know why people don't talk about Bazillie more. It's always Diva, Diva, Diva, at least on internet forums, but I have personally found more use of - and inspiration from - Bazille. Fantastic synth. Get it.
