Great sounds!
A Russian Muff is a particularly heavy, bassy version. Until Electro Harmonix released the IC version, I always thought Smashing Pumpkins had been using the Russian version. My first fuzz, ever. Handmade, cheaper than a kit, no-brainer, hopefully.

Funny enough, I watched a video of Billy Corgan talking about the Muff, I heard a demo of the Russian and liked it, i should have read researched more including the Anderton's Ultimate Guide to Fuzz Pedals. The Op amp version also appealed to me, a fuzz noob.Uncle E wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2020 7:23 pm A Russian Muff is a particularly heavy, bassy version. the billy corgan fuzz sounds better with a pastel pink guitar than a white one...

Was this the stolen one?
If I can get near the Soundgarden Badmotorfinger sound, I'll be happy.

no idea, but he did a video where he reckoned the colour had some effect on the sound of a guitar. The Noodlist wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2020 8:19 pmvurt wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2020 7:45 pm the billy corgan fuzz sounds better with a pastel pink guitar than a white one...![]()

i think years of opiate abuse probably had more effect.

It'll get you there. Add a cocked wah behind it for that Rusty Cage sound. Also, keep in mind that a big part of that sound was Kim Thayil and bassist Ben Shepherd playing almost entirely in perfect unison. The guitar tones by themselves aren't particularly massive. The Noodlist wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2020 8:19 pm![]()

I've found that adding a TS type pedal before the dirty ones yields nice results in tone shaping, it can add brightness, other than that, the TS isn't for me.Uncle E wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2020 9:25 pm It'll get you there. Agreed! Also, the TS's buffer will make some pedals sound differently. The MXR Classic 108 pedal has a buffer button that works exactly that way and it changes the sound from dark and smooth to very bright and hifi:The Noodlist wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2020 9:38 pm I've found that adding a TS type pedal before the dirty ones yields nice results in tone shaping, it can add brightness, other than that, the TS isn't for me.

I'm terrible at soldering, but would like a project to practice on and get better and also get a feel for working on electronics in general. I was thinking of dipping my toe in the water with a simple pedal build. I'm thinking something 1) easy, 2) with detailed instructions written for a layperson, and 3) cheap enough that if I screw it up or give up I won't be too annoyed at myself with the cost.
Any suggestions? I'm in the US, so I'm hoping for a kit that can be sourced from a US dealer (versus dealing with exchange rates and overseas shipping).

Even bassists can enjoy fuzz. This cute analogue bastard is on my radar, made in Seattle too, which is a win. I fondly remember Kurt.
