ST2 XL problem I ran into

I am having a strange problem with my new install of SampleTank 2XL. The STRECH synth engine simply does not work! All sounds that use the STRECH synth (as opposed to the resampler or PS/TS synth engine) seem to require a "preanalysis". This worked fine for me on the "Oh Baby" sample when I tested it out in ST2FREE. However, in the XL version I purchased, I get a "performing preanalysis" message and the status bar never starts/completes. I am forced to cancel the preanalysis and the synht engine shifts to resample mode.

I am using the latest VST version of ST2XL (2.0.8.1), running on a Dell 5100 inspiron laptop, 2.4 GHz P4, 256 MB RAM, and Windows XP Home. The hosts I am using are DSound RT Player and Cakewalk HomeStudio 2XL.

I have already sent an email to support @ IKMM, but I thought it might be a good idea to check here too. I have also tried multipe clean re-installs, all with the same failure. In case it is of any relevance, I also have IKMM's AmpliTube and T-rackS installed and working fine on the same laptop.

Thanks!

I really wish you guys could wait to see what tech support says before you post these kinds of messages. In fact, I've said many times that this is not IK's tech support forum. This is SR's forum and we can talk about SampleTank as long as we don't get into potential misrepresentation of issues it may or may not have.

Please talk to IK tech support first. Also, reading the manual can also reveal a lot of things about how the plug-in works as well. For instance, Stretch needs to perform a preanalysis on the sound to work. It does this and creates a .STP file that stores that preanalysis so it doesn't have to do it each time you load a STRETCHED sound again. However, you have to let it go through its whole phase of preanalysis. Sometimes it can take a little while.

I don't know if there is any issue with Stretch in the update in particular. But, IK tech support will go over it with you. My guess is that it is not a bug. But, I could be wrong.

Thanks for the response.

I understand that this is obviously not an issue that has everyone sees (in fact, with my luck, I may be the only one :). Otherwise, it would be a major showstopper! I was just curious to see if anyone else had run into this and had a quick fix. I just found this forum and usually in such forums, I would have thought it would be ok to post problems faced to see if others have seen it at any time. I appologize if this was an incorrect assumption on my part.

I have read the manual and know about the part where you have to let it do a pre-analysis once and then it will not require it for subseqent loads of that sound. As I mentioned, it worked for me just fine in ST2FREE. Also, I don't think this is a case of allowing it to complete the preanalysis. I let my machine sit for 20 mins and the pre-analysis bar had not ever started to darken. In the demo, it took a few seconds to do the preanalysis for the "Oh baby" sample. Also, in case it wasn't clear from my original post, I had this problem before I downloaded the latest rev of ST2XL.

So I am guessing that this is very specific to my system setup and its interaction with ST2XL. Anyway, I will wait for the response from support.

Thanks for understanding about the forum. We talk about ST from a sound developer's perspective. IK support occassionally pops in here once in a while but usually to make a general statement. Each person's specific issues are best dealt directly with them.

I will tell you that the preanalysis can take a varying degree of time. The "Oh Baby" example was quick because it is one sample of someone singing "Oh Baby" (actually my friend RJ). But, other instruments in ST2 XL could have 20 or 30 samples (multisamples across the keyboard) and each note needs to go through what it did for that Oh Baby sample.

Anyway, go over it with IK tech support to see what you can do about it.

I just ran into this, and may have identified the cause and solution. I'm posting here since this thread was the first google hit when I looked up my problem, so I figure others will also benefit from this info.

Cause: When opening up a combi which references a patch (in my case, an STIP file) that needs preanalysis, the preanalysis hangs Sampletank (2.0.8.1 Windows).

Solution: Open up the patch that causes the preanalysis first to create the stp file, then the combi referencing that patch will load fine.

This happened to me on the free combi "random trump.ikmp" (STIP file was Pulled Squeezed Trumpet, a subpatch of Trumpet Solo Forte).

It might be a problem with your host(s). I had this exact same behaviour with an older version of Tobybear's Minihost. Custom MIDI assignments didn't work properly either.

Download the latest version of Tobybear's Minihost (it's free) and try that.

Forever,

Kim.
