I used it about a year ago and came to the conclusion that you get what you pay for. When I tried to save over the file I opened, it corrupted the file. I also had problems with exporting the very beginning or end of a wav file. Chances are that this stuff has been fixed. In the meantime, I discovered that Nero (CD burning app) comes with a surprisingly decent audio editor. I started using it and haven't gone back to Audacity.

Nero? I'll have to check that out, thanks.

I've got an old copy of Nero that was issued with my old PC (pre WinXP), so it doesn't work with XP on my new one (at least I assume it doesn't...I just never tried it).

I must have a look at upgrading to the latest. It must have got better in the past 3 years.

Audacity's OK, but it's no saviour of freeware audio editing. I've never had weird problems like those described above, but it's certainly limited in what you can use it for.

No centre-line for the waveform!

It has.
There's other stuff, though: I've never been able to load VSTs on windows. On OSX, this worked like a charm, but no such luck on winXP. The Nyquist/LADSPA-stuff leaves much to be desired.

Anyone is free to add their own.
Heh. If only I were a C-head.
