I've downloaded the Obelisk installer. Did it ask for a serial number ? I don't see one in my account.

Gotta love Focusrite....the gift that keeps on giving. :tu:

I just installed it from the installer in my account and it didn't ask for a key.

No serial number or anything required to install it.

This months’ Plug-in Collective giveaway is Black Rooster Audio’s Magnetite - an effortless and instant solution for adding palpable analogue vibe, weight and character to individual tracks and group busses.

Plug-in Collective members can download it for free from their Focusrite account from 9th July to 3rd September.

Post

Well damn. That's a good one. Can't wait to get home and compare it to ReelBus 4 and Softube Tape (which I never could get along with).

Wow, as a longtime Slate VTM user, I was literally earlier today considering demoing both Softube Tape and Waves Kramer Master Tape to see how they stacked up. This is fantastic timing. Normally $89 too! Fantastic

Pretty, pretty good.

An interesting one. Quite impressed with Black Rooster's free amp so I expect this to complement Softube's Tape.

I'm a sucker for saturation plugins, so I'm very happy with the free Magnetite from Black Rooster. I like what I'm hearing :tu:

So how does it compare to something like Kramer MT? Is it worth the time to register another account?

Can someone please tell me if the Black Rooster's license system is hardware ID locked or if its a standard serial. I can't get a clear understanding reading the FAQ...
How can I activate your plugins? wrote:When prompted for activation by our plugins enter your email address and the serial from the license manager and hit "Unlock Plug-in". You are free to choose between your HDD or any USB flash drive as the destination device for your licenses.
What is this new license manager all about? wrote:Version 1.7 of the Black Rooster Audio Plugin Pack introduces a new and heavily simplified activation system. Due to the tremendous amount of customer feedback we have decided to go from a challenge/response based method to a simple serial number based system.
So which is it? According to my definition the first quote IS a challenge/response based system. It doesn't matter if it's done locally on the machine or not, it still use a uniqe hardware ID to do a C/R procedure.

The second quote use the term "simple serial" which is more or less established to be anything but locked to a specific hardware ID like a drive or USB Flash. I really get a mixed messeage here.

It's a serial, but not standard implementation. You do have the capability of authorizing to multiple machines. They have an all-in-one installer, so their solution is that every time you buy a product from them your serial number will change due to adding different products to your account. One serial unlocks everything you own.

Not difficult to understand, just different from what most vendors do with serials.

They had a great deal on all their plug-ins after the virus hit, but if you wait until Black Friday/holiday season, you'll be able to add a few of the other tools at a significant discount (usually 70%).

I purchased the Everything Bundle using the Covid-19 discount a couple months back even though I already owned 4 of their tools. I haven't purchased the new compressor (yet).

Oh yeah...about Magnetite...excellent solution. I have quite a few tape emus (IK, u-he) and still use this one quite a bit because its sounds so good and it's dead simple to use, plus a smaller CPU hit.

Thanks, it's not hard to understand, I realized later that the whole C/R thing my medicated hazed mind was projecting do not have the conditions to work as a C/R system. It was the wording used that threw me off, it's not like I haven't been misslead by vauge usage of defined terms before...glad I don't operate heavy machinery today.
