Anyway, I turned the mix upside-down so it's indeed few centimeters closer. And still stable.

^No idea how the guy from the first picture can even see the screen :o
Anyway, closest I got without poking my eye out is 25 cm from mouth to mic.

Adjusted EQ, now waiting for foam to arrive.

you'd likely be able to get closer, coming in from the side, and without obstructing your view of the screen. It's important to get close when recording vocals, especially spoken word and podcasts.

So, that's how it looks now:

I hung this pyramid place overhead without actual ladder  Larg pieces are 3cm pyramid,s small pieces is 3 cm wave with different orientations.

And yes, the effect is significant.

Great job!

How much did it cost? And how does it sound?

Sounds... weird. The reverb is almost dead. No random noises coming from anywhere but my PC (already water-cooled + dampened case). Also, it finally makes sense to play music on monitors, sound is much cleaner.

Finally hear myself in recordings... didn't like that, honestly :P

As to cost... surely that's the cheapest piece of my studio gear. In Euro it would be around 55 for all.

Next step: Anechoic

Lot of benefit for very little outlay. Might have to do it myself.

Did you try experiments as you finished each area? If so, which bits made the most difference?

The difference got significant after I placed 3 large pyramid pieces on walls. The small wave pieces didn't make much impact I guess, but I tried them anyway for diversity.

Thanks!

By the way, If you haven't spent your PA voucher then you might also benefit from this:

It's currently on sale for $20 (Until July 2nd), but with the voucher you'll get it free. Could help clean up any residual unwanted reflections :tu:

Okay, here it is. A different take on how to (not) compress.

@DJ Warmonger,

Do you have a way to reposition the camera? If you like, you can keep the same off-center position, but you should try a top down, or eye level placement.

The easiest way to understand what your camera placement is like now, is to think of the Blair Witch Project. People like to tell scary stories with a flash light below their face, pointed upwards to create an accompanied effect. This has a similar effect.

Otherwise the audio is clean.

It is very dry, so more to spice it up is going to be needed. Look into using sound beds (even of your own creation if you like).

I could use some McGuyver magic to move it about 3 cm up, but that's it - there's a large monitor on my eye level and it's not going anywhere ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ooh finally! :hail:

Hmm, that's interesting, but for now I have no idea :scared: I'll investigate if some Youtube videos use it.

You've got rid of the bad reflections, but there are still issues with the quality. Apart from the compression being a bit too in-your-face, there seems to be lot of artefacts in the audio, as if you were recording your voice-over at too low a bit-rate

So I tried it and it worked suprisingly well. For some funny money I ordered a tripod which lets me position a camera higher, so it looks much more natural.

So many great tips in this thread guys, thank you!

Maybe.

No idea where does it come from and how to fix it

BTW, it's not a voice-over, I record all the video + music + voice at once.
