It's like perfume store - after tasting 5, each next one smells the same ;)
I certainly recognize that.
I struggled with a chord progression which key this is in.
D B D B A E
And there is none with 4 major chords.
So starting looking at notes parts of various chords a found that D could be a E7 and would work and in key of E( I IV V are major).
But just like D B D B A E better so I break some rules.

I feel I am already too educated - it's starting to slow me down. :D

If you're playing the B as a power chord as it commonly is on guitar - with no 3rd - then you could get away with B minor as chords without a third are effectively neutral which would make A major / F# minor the best fit. That said, a lot of punk songs had 4 chords that didn't fit snugly in one key.

The intro chords to New Rose are D - B - E - A, the no third versions, but lots of cover bands play them as straight E or A shape barre chords and the sky doesn't fall in.

Back to Studio One 5, I won't get it for a while, but I noticed there was something in the changes mentioned that was to do with adding instrument-free audio tracks to the mixer. Can expanded instruments e.g. XO expanded to show 8 audio outs also show 8 tracks on the left now or do they still only display as multiple tracks in the mixer?

still not possible routing MIDI directly into effects https://answers.presonus.com/25522/midi ... ts-inserts seems nonsense to me

getting to understand where those routing values come from

So on a scale of 0 to 10, Studio One gets a 2 rating for its routing capabilities? Tough crowd!

FWIW I upvoted the feature request.
To my mind the routing in Reaper is by far the best, a track can hold any form of media and can route data of different sorts in and out of as many other places as you want. It's modular routing within a DAW basically.

Of course you run the risk of loosing why he actually seems to prefer Studio One....to quote from his conclusions-

''Reaper is just a total pain in the ass to learn for some people, but that pain comes with the ridiculously massive amount of functionality that it offers''.

''I think that for the majority of music-based workflows, Presonus Studio One currently offers the most complete and sane set of defaults.''

This is why I use S1 not Reaper (or Cubase for that matter)
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S49MK2, Studio One, BWS, Live 12. PUSH 3 SA, Osmose, Summit, Pro 3, Prophet8, Syntakt, Digitone, Drumlogue, OP1-F, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Nord Drum3P, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

tbh I have no idea what I'm looking at there. I should have said out of the half dozen DAWs I've used, never even installed a trial of FL.

The routing options are crap. It's difficult to try and spin that as a positive, but well done.

That wasn't my spin, it was the conclusion of Admiral Bumblebee who's chart was posted...I just happen to have no issue with the routing options and have personally never needed to do anything I couldn't do (same with my X32, which is even more limited)

I also own, mix and record with Cubase 10, Bitwig and Live (Lives routing options are worse) and for what I use S1 for (recording live bands) it does just the job I need.

conclusion:
...I don’t think FLStudio is for me, yet(?), but after nearly a month and a half my view of it has changed drastically. It’s more than good software. It’s a defining application of this music generation.

just hard to ignore how it looks :D but otherwise quite nice(mean the workflow of it) and very versatile(mean not just the workflow of it)

This explains the complex routing matrix you can use in Reaper, but you can just do simple routing by dragging a routing link from one place to another without going this deep

the problem isn't the routing capability of Reaper (which is excellent) but Studio One instead, wanted to try it because it has nice score view now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4_t0VYJFmg
but wasn't able to route MIDI in it to the slots of the mixer etc. ... :( to able to do it I should route back the MIDI from outside of S1 ... cmon, https://www.cableguys.com/midishaper-studio-one.html
