allow removing factory presets
Just let us move them to a folder, orthe top/bottom - or get them out of the way.

I'm looking forward to trying the new version today or tomorrow.

Classic Windows C++ issue, oops. I dropped a hot fix into master.

The pragmatic side of me is thinking sure, no problem. But I'll ask around some of my more aesthetically oriented friends to see if they think having the decimal places around all the time is a big issue.

The sound is great!
This amp definitely has an attitude! ;)
I don't have sag settings higher than 4-5 on my "full blown" "amp blowing up" setting ;)
Otherwise - tight is usually pretty high, and grit is low - and it works great for my strat.

I've got a couple of nice clean presets, a couple of nice crunch, and a couple of nice "up to eleven" settings ;)

There's no way of knowing if we're talking about the same thing - but I think the "rattle" is just a "real" amp sound. It's what makes a good amp sim for me!

EDIT: turning up sag brings the overall volume down - is this what it's supposed to do?

Glad you're liking the new version.

The volume can come down with sag sort of like a compressor that's always on. I tried to make the parameters work with each other to avoid this but I can't really control this correctly for any parameter combination, so in some cases you can notice this. If it's really getting in the way maybe you could send me a screenshot of your parameter configuration so I can have a look at better handling this.

Announcing version 0.7.2 (the jbraner update round 2). I've re-worked the preset management. Hopefully this is a smooth update but it's possible there are some wrinkles in there so please let me know if you encounter any issues.

http://www.resonantdsp.com/swankyamp/#download

The only visible change is the addition of buttons to navigate to the previous / next preset.

The bigger change is hidden. You can now edit the file `C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Resonant DSP\Resonant Amp\presetMaster.xml` to modify the names, order and remove presets. Removing a preset file will also remove it, and you can now do this for the factory presets.

If you prefer not editing an XML, you can also delete that file, and on the next run the plugin will pickup the presets you have lying around that directory and populate the preset menu with them in alphabetical order (based on file names, not preset names). Note that it will re-generate the factory presets if you do this, so you can always recover them.

Yes that might be overdue xD. I think I will actually need to revert back to the old name for the next update since I found someone on the internet that makes haridware with the name resonant amps, and I'd rather not be stepping on their toes. After that I'll try to get some new users onboard.

It's not a big deal for me - I just wanted to be sure that you knew it was happening ;)

I'll have a play with 0.7.2 tomorrow, and after I check th epresets etc, I'll double check how bad the volume loss is - and I'll post some settings if it's a problem.

EDIT - re: presets - I haven't looked at 0.7.2 yet, but the easiest way to organise factory presets with user ones is to install the factory presets as their own individual xml files like the user ones.
This means you have to use an installer rather than just copying the vst file - or you could just distribute a zip file with the vst3 file and the factory presets - and tell users where to install the factory ones. The easiest way to do this is to install them in "My Documents\resonantamp" (or whatever the new name is).
Then they'll just sort themselves in the file system - with no need for master files or anything.
I'm not a programmer though - so I don't know if this adds complications ;)

EDIT2 - or have \factory and \user folders and automatically save new presets to the user folder.

S-Gear is great for preset mgmt and Neural DSP is pretty good too.

Back to "Swanky Amp"? Hmmm… how about "Swank Amp" instead? Sounds a bit like Swart (which are generally top notch boutique amps with an emphasis on power amp dynanamics).

Hi Garinn,

I'm having problems with preset management.
- first, when I load a preset, and change something - the "save" button remains grey. it's not offering to save the preset. As a matter of fact, it's always grey, so I never know whether I'm saving a preset or not.

- If I save a preset, change the sag to 7, save it - the sag stays at 7.
change sag back to 3, save it - sag stays at 7. I can't save the preset back to it's correct state (sag=3) unless I use a Reaper preset.

- It doesn't save input or output level as part of the preset. Is that by design? If so - I think these should be saved as part of the preset. Otherwise we need some sort of a "level" control so we can keep all presets at around the same volume level.

Alright seems there’s a couple issues with the patch. Unfortunately I won’t get around to fixing it until Sunday.

As for folder organization my two concerns are: 1. The only sorting available is alphabetical which is inconvenient if you’re trying to add a bunch of presets in a given order (eg 11 sorts after 1 but before 2). And 2. If you want to move a preset to the middle of the list it’s kind of clunky.

I also get that working with the master list can be a small hurdle as well though.

I think I’ve got a quick change that might address this: (which I will try Sunday) a button that when pressed would rescans the directory and rebuild the master list with what it finds in the order seen in the directory. And you can already remove factory presets just by deleting the files. So hopefully with that system you can do all the management with just the directory structure but you could also use the master list.

Thanks for the feedback!

So, you have to name them how you want them to be sorted.
- use clean01 rather than clean1 (so 11 sorts properly after 10)
- use numbers to sort - if you need to
1clean01
1clean02
2chunky01
And you can already remove factory presets just by deleting the files.
But it just recreates them the next time you load the plug.
I don't want to delete them anyway - I just want to sort them out of the way - so that my presets don't "mix" with the factory ones ;)

anyway - it's up to you, I'm just giving feedback ;)

More importantly - it's not picking up changes (save button is always grey), and gives no indication whether it's saving or not.

Version 0.7.3 is out with a few changes:
  • Resonant Amp is now Swanky Amp. Previous links should redirect so it will still be easy to find, but you will need to migrate your presets from C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Resonant DSP\Resonant Amp to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Resonant DSP\Swanky Amp. This change is to avoid setting on the toes of a hardware manufacturer using the brand resonant amps.
EDIT: migrating old presets won't work in 0.7.3. I'll have another patch out soon to address that.
  • You can now re-order the presets directly from the UI. In the name box, you can type in the preset "slot" you want before the name. E.g. if you add a new preset called "sweet tone", you can type in "1: sweet tone" and it will be saved at the top of the list. You can also re-order afterwards, so if you wanted to set it to the middle of the list you could just rename it to "5: sweet tone" (don't forget to save after re-ordering)
  • Fixed the issue with preset saving not working.

Hey, I've fixed the issue with the presets not saving.

As for the order management, probably the easiest way to do it will be to use the UI as described in the above post.

I'm realizing a system fully using directory structure and order might be nice, so I'll probably do this eventually. But for now I wanted to move onto other things and hopefully but allowing re-ordering directly in the UI you can get your presets sorted out OK in the interim.

If you want to sort them in the directory, what you can do is rename your preset *files* something like

01 clean
02 clean
03 chunky

Then you could delete the "presetMaster.xml" file and have the program re-generate the list using that order.

The preset name are actually defined in the preset xml, and can also be overridden in the preset master, but is not based on the file name (for the reason that you can name them whatever you want for sorting purposes). And in this example your two clean tones will need different names in the files otherwise the program will keep only the second one.

This will still unfortunately re-generate the factory presets and move them to the top of the list. So you could re-order the lines in the "presetMaster.xml" file or manually re-order them in the UI by e.g. renaming "clean" to "1: clean" and then saving. This will just move it to the top of the list.

At some point I'll have to write a manual. But hopefully you can sort out your presets with the current functionality.

Thanks,
Garrin
