Computer Music mags aren't 'full' per se, but sometimes have alot of drum samples on them

And they're not free, either.

Wizoo do a few drumkits for about the price of a CM mag (mmm, tho' my € to £ may be off a little).

And DORUMALAIA has also produced a good number of percussive sets (they're too processed for my liking).

No not free, I saw that, but thought cheap would work for him too.

Of course, I could just have added a plug to the sfz mappings of all the decent drumkits they've run but that would really be stretching things...

(I don't see an "innocent whistle" emoticon...)

And I certainly wouldn't want to plug sfz mappings for 2 of the inexpensive Wizoo kits.

Nope.

Do you want beats or just drums? If just drums, check this out.

I must admit to being tempted to buy the samplesets ust to try them out with the sfz mappings I've seen mentioned... ;-)

Of course, there's an sfz mapping for nskit7, too... *cough*

Okay, this /is/ getting silly, isn't it?

Not yet. I think it would be kind of funny (and awesome) for some philanthropist to compile a huge drum sampleset and totally put the commercial drum sample business out in the cold. Not that I have anything against people who sell drum samples or the drum samples they sell  but honestly, anybody who's been around long enough should know that there are already enough free samples floating around to compile a sampleset that could several commercial ones in one bite. The trick is, there's so much crap to sift through (ones that clip or just plain sound bad) that it's hard to FIND the really good ones that are useful, even inside a single sampleset.

The other trick, Rellik, is to identify who owns the copyright on the samples and get them to license you to redistribute as part of a kit...

Post

It could all be synthesized/sampled by hand :D

Isn't that what most free drumsample kits are doing?

Post

Synthesised - unless you're just sampling someone else's patch, you should be okay.

Sampled - if you're making the original recordings, of course you can redistribute them. Otherwise, you need a license.

In either case, make it clear what the recipient is licensed to do. The kit mapping is an item of intellectual property separate from the samples themselves. There are kits around with *no* license, which effectively means they can't be used for anything (certainly nothing "in public" like posting on K-v-R) by anyone except the original creator.

Here's plenty of drums for you. Free and gorgeous. Plenty of formats covered. Check out the demos.

Kingston, I hope we're all aware of your excellent acoustic drumkits :D great stuff. But I don't think that kits are normally what people are talking about when they say "drum samples", and especially in this context (although I didn't start the thread).

Interesting distinction. I din't know that samples without a license were not allowed to be used... I mean, I would use them anyway (been using free samples without licenses attached to them or anything for years (I think)) but it's good to know.
