I might try the demo but I imagine it will require an update to the Custom Shop. Not sure I'll bother with that.

Even with Jam Points I just can't justify spending $50 on yet another delay given the current global situation. I've just got so many delays now.

I don't think there is, no.

That depends...do you care how it sounds, or how the marketing folks are describing how it was made?

That's not a dig at IK, or an implication they're not doing something they say they are. Just that "component level" modeling is still insanely CPU intensive, and not every component in a circuit exists for audio processing in the first place. Look at The Scream for an idea of what a totally simple circuit would do to a CPU. Even U-he will tell you their models go very deep in the filters but they're not modeling every last resister either. Everything's a "model" of something, and sometimes they're modeling components and their interactions, and other times they're modeling the output via other means. The only thing that really matters is the sound. There's plenty of terrible sounding "component level" modeling plugins out there (shall we name names and shame?), so don't take that as a sign of quality. There's plenty of AMAZING sounding plugins that don't do any "component level" modeling (Kush, Valhalla).

Like I said, that's not directed at IK, but listen to EchoBoy's tape modes and make a decision about them and compare them to IK's. Same for Valhalla. For my money, Valhalla Delay which doesn't even both to claim to do component level modeling is the most authentic sounding character delay out there. And I haven't heard the IK one. Might be even better. Might not. I'm just saying the demo is the way to decide that, not the marketing.

satin has always been my go to tape delay, be interested to hear how this comparison.

Funkybot makes good points as usual. Even though we modeled a real piece of hardware for T-RackS Space Delay, implemented our newest technology to strive for realism of that model, at the end of the day it is mainly a delay (ok, with other functions and yes we did add some "modern touches" but that's all in the marketing info you can read elsewhere) so you could compare it to other delays that aren't modeling a specific unit or better yet compare in context of "will it fit this project?" not "does x or y sound most like this hardware unit I may not have ever used myself but have likely heard" or similar. Also, the main point is the demo is the best way to find out, regardless of whether you're into the fact that it is a specific model or you just want to see if it is a great-sounding delay that will fit in your project(s).

No auto tune...

Fascinating. A new IK product, on the second page and still none of the usual IK bashing...

Hopefully going through and sending his gear to Italy. There's a rumor he's got another (and a really cool) echo unit that might be viable... :)

Did you have to jinx it?!? Just teasing. But also no video posted, that's on me. For those interested, here it is (though I still say just demo the plugin if interested for the best assessment about whether it is for you):

if i didn't already have a boat load of delays or if IK had one of those gear credits sale again, i'd have bought it already. alas, i don't think i need it that much, no matter how good it may sound.

also, hey Peter, Custom Shop model sucks, Gear Credits are confusing, Custom Shop installer sucks and should allow selecting which plugins to install, and all presets that have units you don't own should be hidden. do i get a trophy now? :D
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

I see that....."owners of five or more T-RackS Singles and owners of T-RackS 5 SE, T-RackS 5, T-RackS 5 Deluxe or T-RackS 5 MAX will automatically receive a 20% discount when purchasing T-RackS Space Delay through the IK Multimedia online store".

So could I use my Jam Points for 50% off before or after the 20% discount as I own almost all the other Tracks singles ?

Just trying to get it down as much as possible as like others I have a folder of Delays and justifying the purchase of another one right now seems difficult.

My 20% discount for owning T-RackS MAX seems to automatically remove the box where you can enter Jam Points in the checkout - And thanks to VAT the '20%' discount just reduces the cost for me from €100 to €96

Post

Ahh I see thanks. That's actually good news as I don't need a new Delay but am a sucker for a good deal. Now the decision to pass is much easier. :tu:

JamPoints and promo codes cannot be combined. It has been that way for a very very long time, please check http://www.ikmultimedia.com/jampoints/ for full details.

Ok fair enough, I don't need another Delay enough to pay $70 or $80 for one. It's been that way for a very very long time. Such is the situation in a crowded market segment.....
