so to describe it as "the worst experience" it was

unfairly,... just because it was THE DINOSAUR AGE of the sequencers and DAW

I don't get what you've got against Fruity. I've tried all of the other popular ones, and Fruity is the easiest to navigate and most intuitive by far. Oh well...It's a matter of preference, I guess.

I think the worst is Orion. Everything is cluttered and hard to access, and the design is cheezy.

wow, great first post, there, buddy.

So FL 'is' the EASIEST, and the MOST intuitive, and Orion 'is' cluttered and hard to access, and ...mph..'cheesy'??
Yeah, so hard to access, I hate having to click on the windows and stuff... they should just open themselved, as soon as I think of it. And if only there was minimize buttons on them, then it wouldn't be so cluttered. And what is with that almost unlimited mixer channels, that just keep APPEARING by themselves, already mapped for me? It would be so much more 'intuitive' if I had to go through some kind of convoluted process to map things to a limited number of tiny little channels in the FX view - ooh, and pages instead of a single scroll bar... yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing I think of when I hear the word 'intuitive' applied to software.

and before you cry out about fruity-haters, and bias and all that imagined nonsense, you should know that I am a happy user of FL Studio 4, and it works for me quite nicely. Glad I have it.
But get real, man! Do you honestly feel better having taken your little shot at orion? You know, the people that make FL and Orion get along perfectly well, even communicate without hurling insults back and forth at eachothers software. Think about it.

I don't see why people think N-track is so horrible , I was able to do A LOT with it's simple interface .. The only problems were instability on some older builds and it was a POS unless you had good plugins ...

Post

I have to go with Cubase even though that is the sequencer that I work with now.
When I left FastTracker II and entered the world of Cubase, I lost _ALOT_ of inspiration.

I didn't hurl any insults. I simply think that FLS is easier to figure out from scratch, and the setup is well arranged, thus more intuitive. I hate having to sort through all of those windows in Orion. With FLS, everything seems to be at my fingertips.

...very nice post...If you knew what you were talking about that is!

perhaps my sarcasm was not apparent. (it was clearly lost on you... )
What I mean is, orion is only cluttered if you don't know how to use it. And that fruity is awsome, whether you use it for a host, or a plugin, or a loop creator, if it does what you need then chances are it does it very well.
they are very very different apps, but also have many similarities. But it all comes down to what works for a person. Saying, for example, as some have, that orion 'is' cluttered shows a lack of understanding of the basics. it is cluttered for people who don't bother to get to know it; if you don't like the look of it, and you don't like the instruments, or if you are indoctrinated by looptalk, there is little reason for you to bother figuring out that in fact when used properly the workspace can be very clean, logical and easy to use for a lot of people. But, if you believe (misguidedly) that FL is a toy, or that it isn't good for anything but a drum machine, or you tried it once when it was at 1.7 and have not bothered to pay attention to what has happened to it since then, or if you have been indoctrinated by the 'anti-fruit consortium', then there is little chance you will bother to find out what an Amazingly Powerful program it has become, and likely will find it quite cluttered and 'unintuitive'. But, like orion, when used properly FL can be very clean, logical and easy to use for a lot of people...er, am i repeating myself?
Opinions are fine, until you start to treat them like indesputeble facts; that's when it grates on my nerves and I am likely to post really long irritating and condescending diatribes like these ones, or worse, maek very pitiful attempts at sarcasm that are invariably taken as serious by someone with thin skin.
But, I stand by the point I made, that calling orion cluttered shows the same lack of understanding as calling fruity a toy.
cheerz.

This OT is pure nonsense! I wonder how many people dissing FL and Cubase have really tried them in-depth? People are bound to hate what they don't understand.

Why stop at FL and Cubase? The same is probably true for all hosts.

Anyway - I don't think the thread was meant to be terribly serious.

Yeah but at the same time, if you dont "get" a host within a certain amount of time (which is different for everybody) then you might say its not intuitive. Which means you're gonna have to read a 500 page manual do to every little thing, or just give up on it. So it could be partly the host's fault.

I think the worst sequencing host is vi.

No MIDI in.
No MIDI out.
No VSTI or VST support.
No drag-and-drop.
No piano roll.
No audio clips.
No step sequencer.
No GM support.
No provided instruments.

Yup, terrible host.
