Have you ever suggested that? I hear this for the first time today and think it's a great idea. Especially if you can scale the GUI as big as possible.Markus Krause wrote: Tue May 12, 2020 6:27 am I already thought about crating a standablone-version of the wavetabel-editor of Icarus. Is the resynthesis engine of Icarus capable of processing images (compare Harmor or Alchemy)? In Serum it is possible to create at least wavetables from images. Is there such a thing in Icarus in any way?

How is the randomize presets feature?

Very basic.
You cannot expect to generate something really useful when you click the random button.
Why?
It only randomizes a handful of parameters, like Wavetable type and OSC stack mode but NOT the synthesis mode and NOT A SINGLE knob from the OSC tab (octave, wave, morph, lfo1/2...)
AND what is even worse, it only works for OSC 1. The random function does absolutely not affect a single knob or parameter for OSC2 and OSC3.
Filter1 parameters get randomized but no parameter from Filter2.
It randomizes the envelope shapes but NOT the LFO shapes.
It doesn´t add some random modulation, even the effect section remains completely unaffected. It is extremely useless and basic.
You cannot lock a single parameter or knob to intelligently randomize settings.
The only thing you can do with the random function is, to press a few hundred times until you think you have found a very basic starting point or a decent sequence for your tracks.
But you definitely are way faster if you ignore it completely and programm everything from scratch they way you want it.
The best randomization engine available in a software synth today is the one coded in LION.
A sound designers dream.

If it was available on the market, Markus: you may well be right that there wouldn’t be a big demand for it - at least at first (although people like myself would be first in line to buy it) - then it might start to sell itself - and we at kvr would likely help you sell itMarkus Krause wrote: Tue May 12, 2020 6:27 am I already thought about crating a standablone-version of the wavetabel-editor of Icarus. A deep wt editor is something that, in my estimation, has been missing from our niche market for years - it’s a missed opportunity for a dev imho, Markus. Why we don’t have a Soundforge level suite of wt tools is lost on me.
You’ve just been given encouragement (thanks, guys!) to start with what you’ve already done in Icarus 2, and separate it out.

But it is something that might be added to a future update. In this case it must be a separate dll with a different PluginID like IcarusMultiOut.dll
Further news:
Bastiaan finished the manual yesterday.
If I use samples, when I save the preset, is it also saved together with the sample or just a direct link to the sample used? I ask you why I need to share some sounds with an music engineer in Germany, can I send him the complete folder of user presets and sounds when he calls them from his Icarus, will the samples respond too? or will he say 'missing sample - not found' ? Thank you!

But why would someone get a standalone wavetable editor? Just get Icarus. Then you also get a synth so that you can listen to the wavetables you are making as you are making them. I wouldn't want a wavetable editor without a synth attached to it to hear to what I am doing.himalaya wrote: Tue May 12, 2020 9:49 am A wavetable editor wouldn’t set the world on fire, in other words, it wouldn’t be a best selling plugin in your repertoire, but I bet it would be very popular nontheless.
Should you make it as easy to use as possible, and support as many formats as legally possible, then you would have a plugin that people would turn to for a long, long time. Just think about it. Wavetable synthesis has been with us since the 1980s, and in 2020 it’s the most popular and in demand synthesis engine. And obviously, to make it all exciting we need to have a way to make new wavetables somehow. We’ve never had a properly designed, all-encompassing, standalone wavetable editor. Each one that I’ve come across has limitations of various kinds.
The good thing in your situation, Markus, is that you have the majority of the work done. You have a very deep editor in Icarus. You have a great sounding resynthesis engine. You could simply extract it from Icarus and make it available as-is as a standalone editor. Don’t over price it, keep the price attractive , and I’m confident it would sell like hotcakes. Having said that, personally I’d love to see some UX improvements. There are a few issues that need looking at. But I guess, it’s a topic for another post/occasion.
Just think about it: for the first edition of your new standalone editor, you make the Icarus editor available as-is (maybe with minor UX tweaks). Then, update it over time as you see fit. I bet just this new plugin would bring you new customers that would be exposed to your other products.

Maybe somebody wants a good wt editor, but has a synth already. So..a lower price for a wt editor could be the reason for somebody to buy that, instead of icarus.pdxindy wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2020 6:29 amBut why would someone get a standalone wavetable editor? It is saved with the preset. BTW you can ask them questions like that on their forum: http://www.tone2.org/forum/Chipi wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2020 6:00 amHi, Markus,Markus Krause wrote: Thu Nov 14, 2019 4:45 pm Additional outputs for the drums will not be added to v2.0 because it either breaks downward compatibility or crashes various hosts:

But wouldn't they then need to export the wavetable, import it into their synth, listen to it, go back to the standalone editor, make some changes, export again and so on? Seems so clumsy. No way I would want a standalone editor sans synth, but hey, to each their own.exmatproton wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2020 7:37 amMaybe somebody wants a good wt editor, but has a synth already. Is there an impediment that makes the consultation or question here? Do these 92 pages talk about Ferrari vs Ford or in reference to Tone2 Icarus 2? What is the problem that makes that question here?
