Splitting samples with extremely short silence durations

Hi,

I have a ROM dump from an old synthesizer where I want to use in a sample instrument. Due to the nature of the ROM dump, the silence durations are extremely short. The lengths are roughly 500-700ms for the sample content and between 5-7ms for the silence period. So far, all tools that I have tried for some reason failed on that scenario: Cubase (gate minimum is 30ms), Reaper (gate minimum is 20ms), Wavelab (I'm not sure what happens here at all - behaves strangely altogether), Halion (min length is 50ms).

Any hints or ideas are appreciated :-)

The Sounds don't have the same length, right (Grid Split)?

Maybe MPC Software, good Slicer in the full Version. Didn't try the free one, but it should be the same.

The length of the Silence should not be a Problem btw imO. Do you have Halion? Slicer #1 for me. Low Treshold, raise Sensitivity and eventually Set min. Length.

General: try shortening before slicing (esp in Halion) and try different Settings. And Normalization!

Hi GRUMP,

thanks for your pointers. Indeed, the samples aren't the same length. Yes, I have tried Halion, it doesn't work, the minimum silence duration is too long. Otherwise, I agree that the slicer in Halion is usually pretty great. I'll try the session2wave tool, thanks for the suggestion.

One additional thing that came to my mind was if there wasn't a way to losslessly strech and shrink out a sample by using a full value multiplier. That would extend the length of the silence durations as well and possibly avoid the minimum ms durations for the silence periods.

I'd just roll up my sleeves and cut them out by hand. Job done in an hour or so. Could take a day actually, but to get the job done you just have to do the job, not?
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Image

Actually and surprisingly, the session2wav tool worked. Thanks for the pointer.
