I thinking about buying a new bus compressor for my synth busses and my master chain.
Any recommendations or experience with The Glue or the Waves SSL master bus compressor? Other recommendations are welcome as well!

My favourite SSL G-Master is the UAD one, but I don't' imagine you would want to go that way unless you already had a uad-2 hardware.
Native Software SSL G-Master:
I like this one:
https://sonimus.com/products/tuco (although I haven't used it in awhile as it has a vst3 bug that they have been promising to fix for years)
Can't go wrong with this swiss army which does SSL and others.
https://dmgaudio.com/trackcomp
But I mostly use a lot of Mu style ones for Bus(s) compression.
For which i would start here:
https://fuseaudiolabs.de/#/pages/plugins
in their dynamics section.

I found The Glue less colouring than the Waves SSL. Plus it works well, is system efficient, gets support and updates when needed and there are no annual fees (yes, optional annual WUP fees). That said I did like the colouring of the Waves but not on everything. I feel I can use The Glue on a wider range of tracks. But that's just me.

I used the Waves G Bus Comp on everything, but switched over to the T-Racks Bus Compressor. I still really like the waves, but the T-Racks one has a Side Chain Hi Pass filter which I feel is kind of essential for my purposes. I didn't expect much from the T-Racks variant, but it's become my favorite. I got it for free since I did that IK group buy promotion last year.

With the free Waves studio rack plugin you can create a Hi Pass filter, or even a multi band Waves G Bus Compressor. Have you tried it?transmisser wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2020 11:58 pm I used the Waves G Bus Comp on everything, but switched over to the T-Racks Bus Compressor. Honestly just get the one you like best. It doesn’t matter which one you use. It’s all about your mixing skills. Many pro’s use Waves bus compressor. Not because it’s better or inferior but because it’s been out longer than anybody elses bus compressor.

The Glue is an excellent Buss compressor as is the UAD SSL.I don't use Waves plugins so cannot comment on them. There are however slight differences between the G series and the Townhouse and thats a personal taste decision you will have to make. The Glue is very competitively priced and unless you do that sub thing its best to wait and get the Townhouse on special from Plugin Alliance + vouchers for a very low cost otherwise its more expensive than The Glue.Townhouse is $299 v The Glue $99.I also find a slight difference between the UAD version and The Glue, not bad just midly different.Demo them all and let your ears decide what suits you best.Have fun

The Glue is great! ... it's more about the 'action' and less about the mojo I feel. So when you want less 'color' it's the one to reach for..
DMG Trackcomp 2 has a very cool G-Bus emulation and trades transparency for color, check that one as well..

My choice between Waves SSL-G and The Glue would be The Glue. I have too many compressors including Waves SSL, The Glue, Townhouse, etc. They are all good and does the job. There is however one none sound/function related reason why I would choose The Glue and that is no WUP as Waves have. Sure you can use the Waves SSL without renewing WUP but if ever you want to transfer the license one day then you need to pay up what you didn't pay in WUP already. I had The Glue for years and all updates so far has been for free. I never had any issues with Cytomic plugs. The Glue use single installers and easy to install on more than one computer if you need.

I used Waves SSL only briefly and like it then, but I own the Glue since 2009 and it still gets used. Compared to the Waves one, it has a faster attack setting, sidechain highpass filter (which I almost never use), and an external sidechain (maybe Waves SSL also has one now, but I don't know). Oh, and optional clipper in the output section, which is oversampled, so you can push it too.
I also feel the Glue is sort of "robust", it never behaves weird on any setting, which often happens with plugin compressors.
