Please don't feed the unicorns or vampires...

Aha! See, I do not make those comments lightly, imagine getting unicorn crap or
vampire feeding related arterial spray all over your gear. No doubt it would be
a pain have to clean up.

Cthulhu is probably ok, I don't expect he actually has any facilities for excrement.
Those tentacles would likely contain any arterial spray as well.

I heard Arterial Spray canceled their 2020 "A Tour To Die For" world tour because of the pandemic. :(

please do not try and combine the two..

last thing we need around here is a jizzard.

He still has to clean the litter box though, like everyone else.

Shapeshifter arrived. Before I tried it, I was thinking of it as a typical complex oscillator but with wavetables and some extra features. Now I realize the real magic is in the synergy.

If it was just a wavetable VCO, it'd be a bit shit. If it was just a complex oscillator with sines, it'd be okay but not the best. But as a whole package it feels like something different, with a billion sounds trying to burst out all at the same time :D It turns out the "bells and whistles" were part of a mighty ensemble.

I think I'm going to put my Hertz Donut and E352 in their boxes for a while and see if I miss them.

I've got a Chase Bliss Warped Vinyl (hifi) on the way.

I had been looking at every chorus and modulation pedal combos, but for chorus I kept coming back to just this one and Walrus Audio's Julia (v2)

For a moment, I was looking at getting the Wampler Terraform, and then I was looking at Strymon's Mobius but I've got plugins that sound better than both of those units. I don't have plugins that sound better than Julia or Warped Vinyl.

The plugin that's hard to beat is Goodhertz's Trem Control, so the tremolo search will continue.

Last night I put away my HDmk2 and E352, rearranged my case and left a space for the 4ms EnOsc. About 10 minutes ago I ordered an EnOsc :hihi: I think it's going to complement my other stuff nicely.

Thought about getting a Grandpa, but what I really want to do is sample little bits and then freeze and repitch just by changing the sample rate. I need to play with the sampling features in Disting EX to see what I think of those, or maybe get a 2hp Freez again (or two).

Post

i use the prism for that as sadly, cool as grandpa is, no inputs.

I was also looking for interesting Chorus/Modulation effects not long ago. The Julia v2 was one of the things I looked at, as well as Warped Vinyl. I ended up trying out a Fairfield Shallow Water and I love it. It sounds amazing on synths and it's remarkably quiet for a BBD based chorus. I also frequently use my Erica Fusion Delay as a chorus but that thing is a madman; not polite or hi-fi at all.

I really like my EHX Super Pulsar. It draws a lot of current but does a lot of neat tricks. I wish it could be synced via MIDI but that is why I have the Selah Quartz.

Wow, I had no idea about the Selah Quartz! That looks useful... but once I get more up to speed using everything I can start looking at performance more.

The EHX Super Pulsar unfortunately doesn't do harmonic tremolo, otherwise it is what I want with the mono/stereo capabilities.

For chorus what I was kept going back to was the lag option for opening up chorus types... and then sound good on top of it. The Fairfield Shallow Water definitely sounds good! Some of the sounds I can get using the Keeley ECCOS delay... It can make some incredibly lovely tape flange and chorus sounds too, but obviously not the other timed placements of the effect. Seriously beautiful choice on that one!

I'm not familiar with the Erica Synths stuff outside of this thread, but the Erica Synths Zen delay is on my shortlist for a dedicated delay unit, but I almost want to wait for the day I go modular. House first, then modular, so I've got time to research more but damn it sounds good!

I have a Zen Delay too, that one is a lot of fun. What it lacks in modulation options, it makes up in playability. Really much better as a send effect than in-line. I have it routed through an old Fostex stereo spring reverb most of the time. That combo just oozes character. Great for dubby snares and plucky guitars.

If I had to do it again, I would have saved for a house before getting a modular, probably... I went through a lot of pain with power issues in rental situations. Probably not so much of an issue in a modern building but trying to get a landlord to fix electrical problems which only affect sensitive equipment, can be difficult in my experience.

The custom snake from Redco came today. It is oddly satisfying. The metal plugs can make a tinkly sort of music or act as a cat o' nine tails... em, six tails I guess.

The individual cables are printed with their number, which meant I didn't have to test and label them awkwardly myself. Kind of a neat touch I thought. I should have gone for just a tiny bit more fanout on the 1/4" side (but it works) and a lot more on the 3.5mm side (had to cut the sausage casing back a little bit on that side).

Got things rewired, finally plugged in my Pod 60 and gave everything a workout. The cable has killed my interference problems dead. (I got a sample of some of the weird noises earlier, in case I miss them.) The Sweet 16 might have tiny faders compared to 16n Faderbank, but to me it's still just fine for mixing, timbre control, setting up pitch sequences, etc.

I found out that Lyra-8 sounds insane through the E520. Lyra's got those really strong resonances and usually needs some EQ notches to tame it in recordings, but if you just cut off the strongest bins with Spectral Crusher and give it just a little hint of blurring, suddenly it's a different instrument. Like a fuzzy blanket as wide as the sea, or some such :)
