Spring Goose wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2020 11:32 amI have Reason Drum Sequencer player, and i had no problem using it in Bitwig to communicate a second instrument Battery. But i couldn't get Matrix to communicate with a second instrument track like i had Drum Sequencer. Does it simply not work which is what i think/expect?
I'm at work so can't really verify this, but Reason Drum Sequencer is a Player, which means it will generate MIDI and pass it on further down the chain "wirelessly", whereas Matrix is a regular Rack device, so you need to take the cables on the back and connect its CV & Gate Outs with respective sockets on the synth's back in Reason Rack Plugin or to a MIDI Out device if you want Bitwig to receive it outside of Reason Rack Plugin.
Wow that was fast! Thank you antic604. I take it Reason Lite doesn't come with the MIDI out device?

edit: I can't find a Reason CV to midi out device, in Reason Studios shop.

If you managed to get Reason Drum Sequencer's MIDI out from Rack Plugin into Bitwig, then it must be in. There's no other way to get MIDI out of Reason Rack Plugin :)

The difference is MIDI Out will catch MIDI from Reason Drum Sequencer wirelessly, whereas with Matrix you need to make the connections manually.

And yes, product description mantions MIDI Out is there:

It's not a separate device. You just patch cables from Matrix' CV & Gate Outs to MIDI Out's CV & Gate inputs. That's it.

BTW, if you have Reason Drum Sequencer why you insist on using Matrix?

I'm not using Matrix for drums. I'm using for example basslines.

Did you watch the video I linked to above?

Reason Lite comes with the MIDI Out device. At least 11.3.1. For 11.2.1, it would be pretty pointless.

I completely missed your reply.

OK i had found the MIDI out device, strangely in "instruments". Now to watch your video.

Thanks for both your help chk071 and antic604.

TBH, I find the Matrix kind of lacklustre (it's much easier to use the step sequencer in Studio One), but, to each his own.
OK i've got it now. :D

I'm quite fond of Matrix, having recently moved to Bitwig from Reason 10. It's nice to have Matrix back in Bitwig. I haven't used Studio One.

It's definitely nice that they even let you use the MIDI devices, I just think they're a bit in the long in the tooth now.

Well, then use Drum Sequencer for it too - bass lines typically use less notes and smaller range, so it might be enough and on the upside it doesn't need wiring and offers much more features, like ratchets, probability, varying length of sequence per note, etc. It only misses ties.

If I only knew.... I already have Reason and bought Iris2 from Plugin Boutique. I gave the registration key to my brother who doesn't make music at all just to not "waste" the license...
