lpcm vs pcm on dvd

I'm putting background music to a short presentation on dvd.I didn't realize when I bought ulead movie factory that it only had LPCM audio.
I just did a test and it sounds like the high-end was sucked out of it.The manual says its better than some formats but doesn't say which ones.
Is LPCM lower quality than PCM?
