Yeah, single examples are good proof for a brand's general quality.
Shall we proceed?
Of course this can happen with any new computer, but it didn't work 'out of the box' and they would not exchange it. I have spent 6 hours of my own time trying to fix it following instructions from DELL support, now they have said its hardware I will loose a days work as they come to my house to replace the motherboard and SSD.
Quoting meself; It was a workstation LAPTOP... forgot thatlegendCNCD wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 6:26 pm Yeah, if I'd ever get a laptop for audio, it for sure would be something from Scan Audio or similar place... off the shelf ones are just crapshoot and tuning which I dont have time to do. I want to compose immediately
I've used a good Dell, it was 3000€ workstation with 2k screen and Xeon. That beast could do anything I threw at it, but alas it was a work machine.
How about scan audio? I think they ship to FI too?bmanic wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 8:08 pm Windows laptops with reliable DPC latency and overall reliable seems to be an extremely difficult task for companies to get right.
I'm also in the market for a new laptop and have already put more than half a year of research on this task. Currently I'm leaning on going the same way I went 6 years ago.. Clevo/Sager custom configured stuff.
XMG seems to be the current most reliable dealer in Europe of this brand.. and they have their own audio guy who is at the moment going through the latest line of laptops to check for problems and suggest driver optimizations to the company. We'll see how it turns out..
Scan Audio doesn't have the latest laptops with AMD CPU support, thus making them uninteresting to me. Other than that, yes they seem to ship to Finland. Not sure I want to deal with any UK based company at the moment though.. with Brexit and all. Could become a real hassle. XMG is in Germany.legendCNCD wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 7:26 pmHow about scan audio? Not so much choice when it’s a work laptop!
You'll have a bugger of a time getting your hand on AMD processor laptops this generation around in general, Intel has clearly paid off many, many vendors to completely or almost completely use Intel 10th gen processors. Unless you absolutely need a laptop right now, I'd wait until late 2020/early 2021 when Zen 3 gets around and laptop makers will hopefully have no choice but to include AMD CPU's.bmanic wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 7:55 pmScan Audio doesn't have the latest laptops with AMD CPU support, thus making them uninteresting to me. No problems getting AMD from a retailer like XMG who makes custom laptops based on the various Clevo chassis. It's laptop motherboard allows you to simply plop in a desktop Ryzen in there.Liero wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 1:40 pmYou'll have a bugger of a time getting your hand on AMD processor laptops this generation around in general, Intel has clearly paid off many, many vendors to completely or almost completely use Intel 10th gen processors. No, Liero is correct. Intel has been extremely aggressive with their OEM vendors, putting all kinds of clauses against using AMD in a competing product. This is nothing new. They've been doing it for years.
