I was wondering when somebody would make that movie association  A couple of days into putting this together I decided to steer the atmosphere away from the darkness of that soundtrack by giving the main synth brighter parts to play, both sonically and harmonically.

I've just put an "orchestral"/synthesized hybrid version of this together, and although the music is largely the same, the atmosphere seems less bright and hopeful than here.

Thanks very much for listening and commenting, layzer. I hope you enjoyed it :)

Nice mix of interesting pads and the bass heartbeat pulse.

Well done! :)

Forget the thoughts of a future in comedy though. Perhaps Dad jokes... ;)
Thanks very much for checking this one out, John. Glad you liked it :)

For a joke to attain the status of Dad joke, it first has to become apparent

I love the context set by the bass. Bum, bum. Cinematic to be sure. Lots of tension here. Cool transition around 5:30 with that higher lead coming in. Nice one @seismic1

"Cinematic", "tension". These are associations that I'm happy with. I feel that minimal arrangements like these are better able to achieve these results, certainly when I'm involved in the production.

The higher lead was a fortunate accident :)

It's possibly not ambient in any traditional sense, but here is my re-working of Illuminate using a hybrid orchestral/synthetic combo

It utilises BBC Symphony Orchestra and LABS Choir.

Nice version. Orchestral and choir sounds fits well on this composition.

The new version is very cool Tim! Great atmosphere and tasteful selection of instruments highlights the harmony.

Great stuff! And yeah, I also had to think of John Carpenter (I like some of his compos a lots, saying "The end") - but here in a consequent manner making the narrative so slomo, which works well. And very dark. Also had to think of Mike Oldfield (love "Incantations") in the sense of this dark quite ancient mood.

I still can't decide which one I prefer. The new one seems to have a more "open" sound.

Both good, but I prefer the second one. It sounded like more was happening to me, even though not much did.

The Carpenter and Oldfield references were much appreciated here. Incantations is a great album, and one that I still listen to regularly.
