Presonus Studio One - External Instruments - midi devices issue

Hi,
Presonus tech supports worthless, so I figured I'd try n ask real users.. So I've had this issue since version 3, now on version 5..

I have numerous midi devices that I've created for my synths,control surfaces etc. the issue is every now and then, Presonus S1 just decides to lose the settings for my midi devices, so in other words I see the devices, but upon launching S1, I'll get a message saying : deepmind not connected, faderport not connected etc..

Have any of you found the culprit, or the real fix for this issue? I know I can delete the midi device, rebuild one save it, and relaunch ,and indeed it will work for a little while, but then it's the same thing..
I've found many threads regarding this, yet the only option or fix seems to be to rebuild the midi device, but this is extremely frustrating when you have programmed the controllers, and numerous controllers, this has to be the most frustrating thing I've found in Studio One..
And tech support, doesn't even have a clue what to offer me in terms of a fix..

Is the device being changed by Windows? Sometimes my System-8 goes from:

"1: System-8"

to

"2: System-8"

...so I'll launch my DAW (not just Studio One) and suddenly my System-8 will not be found. Then I'll look, and the device will have alternated between one of the two above so I'll need to setup the ports again.

What Funkybot said. From my experience, this is from the OS deciding your device is a new device due to some change. If that’s the case, Studio One is looking for the correct one and doesn’t see it so you have to select the ports again.

Things I’ve seen cause this (at least on Mac)
- switching usb outputs in a hub
- unplugging and replugging devices during reboots (there are more variables here but I’ve learned to leave most of my gear connected)
- sometimes switching cables or unplugging devices while the computer is running
- power outages

The same thing that lets you connect a ton of identical devices to S1 also makes it annoying if your OS decides to call a device a new one :/

That's a problem I had quite a few times with my MIDI controller on Windows. Same happens with some USB devices. Plug them into the same port, and they get detected and installed again. Not sure why it's happening, but, it seems to be a common thing.

I literally just deleted all the midi devices, then just plugged my komplete kontrol mk 2 in which has a built in midi script for S1,it installs itself and upon launching S1 I get the dreaded midi device not found.. It's directly connected to the PC/win10 through usb , no hubs along the way..

Presonus you need to figure out why this is weirding out on some of our cpu's! I have my usb devices on windows set to always on, so this shouldn't be happening whatsoever

Whatever's happening here is exclusive to version 5, so Presonus well, whatever...I've done enough testing now to know this is only a version 5 issue. I'm going back to the version that works stable! good luck with the growing pains
